Hmm. I don't think I tend to put on handbrakes when at traffic lights
unless there's someone behind me and I'm on a hill. I think I'd keep my
foot on the brake, switching to the handbrake once a car appears behind
me (if I'm thinking). Reason being I'd like to be able to make a
getaway in case the car behind isn't stopping...

Well, quite. **** tonight, driving at less than 25mph in moderate fog
with brake lights utterly invisible because of fog lights. He was
braking frequently as well. I gave him a dash (short) of full beam and
then another. Nothing. I then switched full beam on constantly... ****
    didn't take the hint.

Fortunately now I've got a car with a little poke I managed to despatch
him pretty swiftly. God, I think I'm in love with that engine...
va-va-vroom. *sigh* should have held out for the 4.4 litre...

Actually I like that so much I am going to pass that on to My Mum[1]
with the suggestion that they get some dayglo pink stickers made up.[2]

[1] She does a shift three or four times a week with a bunch of Militant
Grannies who guard the cripples parking in Hadleigh High Street. Never
gives up the old girl does she eh, always looking for a fucking fight
with a ****, she loves it she does.

[2] They have been looking at ways of extending their campaign outside
the half dozen yards of kerbside that they patrol,

I tend to do it now I have a car with an electronic handbrake - 'cos it
automatically disengages when you pull away.

I am a lazy **** and drive automatics mostly so I just keep my hoof on
the brake, unless it is on the accelerator. Or, if the engine is not
running, somewhere else. Easy really and just the one pressure to
    contend with as well.

Balloons. Give light pink or blue balloons to the children of those
who park in the blue badge area who do not display their badges. The
parents will be very pleased that little Dick or Jane have been given
a boonie and won't realise until they get home that they've been
marching around with 'cashpoint cripple' on show, advertising their
    cause.

    Bless them.

Is this the new digital "on/off" accelerator?

TBH, running around Paris is ideal with an automatic. Less hassle with
fiddling around with the gearbox when stopping and starting.

That won't upset me - it's exactly what I do. Well almost - except I
switch them off when I'm sure whoever's behind is close enough to see
me, rather than "settled in behind".

  15. Mind boggling, that. Given the size of the spaces in merkin parking lots.

  16. Heh. I've probably seen her; did a fair bit of sales to Babergh Council.
Very nice high street, that one - you'll know it's won awards for having
    proper shops.

  17. I really like that idea. I tend to get a bit antsy about the misuse of blue
badge spaces. Our local Sainsbury's has a car park which is actually owned
by Brent Council. I've gone off and got a warden a few times if I've seen
idiots abusing the spaces. Mind you, the Sainsbury's staff are pretty good
at doing that too. The miscreants invariably use the line of "I'm only
stopping for a few minutes." Tosspots, all.

  18. Yabbut, you're actually using your *brain*, see? It's like using full beam
on a dark country road. Properly.

I agree in principle. It has to be said, however, that the number of
crumbly spaces is getting a bit beyond a joke. It's fucking annoying to
be circling a town centre car park looking for a space, all the time
    passing many empty marked bays.

And as for the so-called "parent and child" spaces, **** that.
