Yeah, all that crashing has softened me up. I used to be really mean ;-)

And no, I do not want a Spyder.

I already have enough to do with spiders, thank you very much - large
numbers of very large spiders come and terrorise me in my house quite often

Returning home this evening making the Calamvale corner left into Beau
Rd it suddenly dawned on me there was a Huntsman the size of my hand
perched on the inside of the windscreen just above the dash pad
    Yes I did say something
    :)

  6. Aww Betty,
I have a beautiful Golden Orb spider living in my garden, she is about 150mm
from tip to tip of her legs
the web is delightful to look at during the setting sun.
Its no wonder they call it a Golden web Orb spider.
I believe there is a cloak made out of a Golden Orb spider in America, made
    in Madagascar,

A rare textile made from the silk of more than a million wild spiders goes
on display today at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.

I was reading down the thread thinking XVS650 - it's the pick of the
lightweight cruisers IMNSHO. You could do a lot worse, cheap as chips
too. The baby Guzzi is decent but last I looked a helluva lot more
    expensive.

I just googled it, John, and I fear I must be losing the plot
completely, because I _really_ like it. I'm thinking if I ever get
something bigger than my 250cc chookie, this might be it. But I fear
SWMBO won't like it if I chuck her Hyundai out of the garage...

I've always liked the styling of the XVS650, but be aware that they're
heavy (like 240kg wet heavy) and top out at about 140kph (not a lot of
    highway overtaking ability).

Very well finished and styled though and isn't that what cruisers are
    really about?

That's bloody heavy. Why are they so heavy?

140 top is fine by me. I'm quite happy at 110 these days.
Like I said, I'm starting to find them appealing, both in appearance
andriding position. I'm done with sportsters.

SWMBO toled me this morning that the Hyunday stays in the garage and
that I'll have to clean the garage if I want to make room for the 650
as well. I nearly had a heart attack.

How dare she! What is it with SWMBO's that suggest we clean our sheds
    out? The nerve!

I know !!! The bloody CHEEK of the woman !!!

Hey, Les, since the Unaugural crowd haven't taken the hint yet, why
don't _you_ organise something somewhere roughly equidistant from
    Adleaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisvegas?

That's put it right in the Outback. At the right time of year, that
could be a buzz. WTF is at cobar anyway?

    Just thinkin' ...

I've made the odd claim here and there for bike mishaps and my insurance
premium have never really fluctuated by all that much.
There are usually ways which you can reduce your premiums further which
are often worth investigating, such as named rider policies, setting
minimum rider age on the policy etc. I remember when I was 23yo I got a
fairly substantial discount on my car insurance by getting a policy
which only covered drivers 25yo and over (excepting me).

She WANTS you to get a bike! Then you can ride off into the sunset
together.... ride to Canberra to visit ME :) - we have nice riding roads...
(also, more cynically, she wants the garage cleaned out, tee hee)

As cruisers go, I don't think it's all that heavy (the Guzzi Nevada is a lot
lighter, but it's the exception). The thing is, the weight's down low, so
it's not too bad unless you're trying to push the bloody thing around coz
it's run out of fuel or something.

I suspect I would have less trouble moving the XVS backwards in a car park
than I did the SV, simply because I'd have my feet flat on the ground and my
knees bent, to get a bit of oomph into the pushing. It was always just a
leetle bit precarious on the SV - i.e., no margin for error whatsoever...

That's the bit that bothered me - I don't want to ride at 140+ all the time,
but there are times when it's certainly handy on the open road.

The other thing I'd be concerned about is the range - any idea how far the
16 litre tank would take you? I used to try to refuel the SV at 250kms. It
had a 17litre tank, and the fuel indicator (i.e., 4 litres left) usually
    came on somewhere between 260-280...
Oh Johno, don't think of it as 'cleaning out' - it's just 'reshuffling to
    make room'...

    Food for thought, thanks, Betty.

(I keep looking at them on the net. I've got to stop doing that. I'm
starting to "see" me riding one of these.)
