Crossposting flame wars / Don't Feed the Trolls

Discussion in 'Texas Bikers' started by another viewer, Dec 6, 2003.

  1. i just killed a topic that was a trolls delight. several people having
a great flexing of their keyboards over who had the biggest hoo-ha or
whatever, while successfully spamming multiple groups with their blather.

folks, if you see a post that is cross posted to several groups and it
doesn't seem to make sense, ignore the damn post and don't respond to
    it.

by responding, you are being played for a patsy by the originating troll
who isn't even posting in the thread, but sitting back revelling in
making you and several others look stupid. don't fall for it, it's an
old usenet trick. they enjoy getting people to rant and rave and it
does no good. you won't prove anything but that you can make a bunch of
useless posts to people you don't know and jam up newsgroups with
garbage. it's a fools game, played by fools. don't fall for it.

    google: troll faq

and do some reading on it.

    thank you.

I am probably the world's worst at walking into these little "usenet"
games.. Isn't it ludicrous that some have nothing better to do than to troll
the usenet groups for the explicit purpose of creating these inane and
stupid insults to integrity and behavior.. Like the man says, "welcome to
usenet".. Makes you wonder if it is really worth the effort..

  3. you know it. and it gets worse in the winter months where these
creatures are trapped in their caves with little else to do. i find it
so tempting to light up on them at times, but taking a deep breath then
eliminating the crossposts if a response is irresistable helps to keep
it to a dogpile instead of a clusterf*ck.

... Like the man says, "welcome to
eh, it is. ya get to meet interesting ppl (such as your own bad self,
bill) you normally wouldn't run across in the daily existence, and
that's pretty cool. on the whole, i like it and the weird parts just
    get ignored.
