Looking to book a ferry with Brittany from Porstmouth to Caen.

Does anyone know of any magazines or something that have got any deals going
with Brittany to make it a bit cheaper? I know P&O sometimes run some MCN
deals but they only sail from Dover to Calais, neither of which are places
that I really want to be!

    TIA

    SpeedFerries run dover to boulogne-su-mer.
They're the cheapest I've found so far for the cage, might be worth checking
    the price for bikes.
Oh, and its bloody quick and there are normally quite a lot of bikes on
there, so it can't be all that bad ?

elziko emerged from their own little world to say
I don't recall seeing any discount codes for BF services. They don't have
the same competition as the Dover operators.

IMV they operate a much better service. It's a shame that they did not take
over the Portsmouth Le Havre route as it is my favourite for trips to
France because a) my son lives in Portsmouth and b) the journey from my
home to Portsmouth is 100 miles less than to Dover.

Personally, if I was travelling to Western France or Spain I would go with
BF every time. It might cost £50 extra but the service is better and my
travelling time on UK roads is reduced if I go via Poole/Portsmouth.

http://www.leisuredirection.co.uk/ should be able to find you the best
rates available inc. the new operator on the Le Havre route, LDLines. Phone
them to get the best price.

Seconded - nowhere near Porstmouth or Caen, but very good anyway.

Wow I was gonna book Brittany for £210 each that got us to Caen
mid-afternoon. But I think LDLines to Le Harvre (not too much further away)
at £120 *including* an outside 4 birth cabin that gets us there at 90:30 is
    a much better offer!

So have peope who have tried LDLines liked them? They don't have a record of
sinking or dropping bikes do they? :)

    Thanks!

    No.

You & EtB are the guinea pigs. They only took over a few months ago when
    P&O dropped the route.

AFAIK the ship is slow and old[1] compared to the P&O ferries that operated
the route previously. This is not necessarily a bad thing. After all you
will be drunk and asleep for most of the journey. You are somewhat fucked
if their 1 ship breaks down though.

Please report back after your respective travels as I'd like to know if
    they are any good. TIA.

Well, I booked up last night for about £120 including my own cabin. I'll let
you know what I think but we're not going till August so you may be in for a
    wait! Thanks!
