Creeping speed limits

My commute takes me along the A412 from Denham to Slough. There is a
short length of dual carriageway between the A40 and Iver Heath, single
carriageway through IH and then another stretch of dual carriageway
(about 2 miles before you get to all the traffic lights) into Slough.

Both sections of dual carriageway are NSL. At least they are today.
This morning, along both sections, there are new metal poles set along
the verge, most of them having a round, metal plate atop, covered in
black plastic. I reckon this means that it will be a 50mph limit in
the very near future. I also spotted smaller poles at various
intervals, most likely for repeater signs.

Ah well, at least it will make it easier to do double the speed limit
for while. I wonder how long before the speed cameras are installed.

12 months, if basing it on a stretch of road I use, that they did the
    same things to.

  3. It is worth keeping an eye on local newspapers for public notices
announcing proposals for new speed limits; the 'justification' for
which is almost invariably "to improve road safety".

I have objected to two such proposals, using road traffic accident data
supplied by the local road safety department, to establish that the
locations where the limits were proposed did not, in fact, suffer from
an accident problem. The data revealed that in the first case, the last
recorded accident was a car hitting a parked dumper truck when the road
was being resurfaced some four years previously. In the second case,
there were significant problems elsewhere on the same stretch of road,
where 30 mph limits were in force!. I enquired how, precisely, the
local highways authority proposed to "improve road safety" where the
    data showed no problem existed!

My objection to the first proposal was rejected and a 40 mph limit was
reduced to 30 mph. They did, however, acknowledge that they had managed
to get their distances wrong in the proposal and the NSL signs were
permitted to remain in situ, rather than being moved further out to
within 400 yards of the '30' signs for the next village, located one
mile away. I have never received any response to the second objection,
and the section of road in question remains a 40 mph limit.

  5. Arse. Thanks for the warning, I go that way too. Along that first bit of
dual I go like a bat out of hell to get past the traffic before the single
    bit. Botheration.

  6. It'll be on their websites as well - either under Consulation Notices or
    Highways/Traffic Planning.

The "whoever" took the A666 in Bolton from being a 4 lane road with central
reservation/barrier and the national speed limit, to 50mph and added FIVE
fucking camera's, all on the same day. This, on a road I hadn't seen an
accident on for over 10 years and only four or five since All rear enders,
    strangely.

I line in Harrow and commute to Slough[1]. You may have forgotten that
we've met a few times in the past at Sarratt.

Ali, I think, is somewhere Edgeware/Crickelwood-ish.

[1] Execpt when I'm at SWMBO's place in Bracknell. That took nearly an
hour to go 13 miles this morning!

  10. I used to go to a very nice pub in Sarratt. When I worked for Case at
    Watford.
Yup. Cricklewood, with occasional visits to Langley. And yes, saw the damn
covered up signs this morning, the bastards. Why can't they use the money to
sort out the exit slip from the A40 and those damn fool lights, eh? Pah.
