    Hiya Peoples.
For some time now while driving to work in the workvan, I've had this
temp Aussie (Only way I can describe him) lane split peak traffic, The
traffic ussually is only doing about 30kmh max, while this loony must be
doing at least 80-90kmh! I see him at least twice a week, over the last 1yr
or so. The place is the Westgate fwy inbound at about 7-7:30am, oftem going
over the bridge itself. The worst bit is that he's going so fast that I
ussually don't see him until he's passing me, I saw him again this morn &
for the upteenth time I got startled by him, He made me so angry this morn
by doing this. So much so that i'm temped to stop the shithead (if I see him
in time) and smack his lights out (we're often stationary when he does it).
I know this sound callous, but I know i'll prob laugh if I see him
    F!^#$d up on the Rd.
    He rides a blue 2000-01 R6.

    Rant Over.

If he's doing it all the time, it hardly makes him temporary...
If he's passing you so quickly you don't have time to see him, you don't have
time to change lanes either, so what he's doing is probably perfectly safe. I
do it myself. It's all a matter of perception. Some people probably think
lanesplitting on one wheel looks pretty dangerous too.
now now Aido... just because you're in a cage doesn't mean you have to be
jealous of riders like all the other caged animals :p

Well, he/she can't be that bad if they've lasted over a year doing it.

Seriously, it sounds to me like you've not been getting enough time on
    your bike..... ;-)

    Stay calm....go for a ride.....

Right enough, this "season of goodwill" does get folk pretty stressed
    out.....<shrug>

OK Nev, Temp Aussie is probably the wrong word, But he'll come unstuck
    sooner or later.
I see people lane changing willy nilly everymorning on my way to work, all
it takes is bad timing by both parties & he's history!
Jealous? Yes I am! But i'm more annoyed at what this Dick is doing for our
cause as bike riders, Only takes one bad apple to spoil the lot!
    So Nev, BITE ME!! :p>

    Will he?

    Why?

People do "silly" things every bloody day, and don't come unstuck. IT's
    quite likely he'll be fine.

That's the problem with this road safety stuff - it's not neat cause and
effect. It's not guaranteed that people doing things disapproved of
will crash, nor is it guaranteed that people doing the right thing
    won't.

    What about the odds?

We don't know... we don't have enough information. Small sample size,
lousy control of experiments, many other factors... It's all guesswork
    really.
And he could be riding "properly" and still be history.

Tell me, how many crashes involving motorcycles are a result of
    lanechanges?

Does it? So all professional sportsmen are cheating drugtaking liars eh?
    Or fraudsters, selling games?

All medical researchers are ghouls stealing organs, or murderers?

I suggest you research the concept of stereotypes, especially
reinforcement of same. YOu might be surprised at the results.

THe basic idea is that everyone stereotypes to some extent. The less
interested in a category you are, the further away from it you are, the
more lurid and one dimenstional the stereotype is. Also, if you feel
you suffer adversely, the nastier it will be.

Then once you have that stereotype, the things you see that go against
    it will be ignored.

So individual biker actions will have nothing to do with the average car
driver's attitude to bikes. If they are already of the opinion that
bikers are suicidal idiots, all the good polite riders in the world will
do nothing to change that, and one person being a little bit silly will
reinforce it beyond all reason. IF they don't have a reason to
stereotype bikers, neither action will matter.

HUman beings are prejudiced unthinking bastards. You can't change that,
so live with it. Don't bother trying to alter stereotypes, it won't
    work.

Ask any copper. Or any Aboriginal.

The more he does it the better he'll get at it, the less likelihood of coming
    unstuck I say.

    Ask a copper or koori?,
why not ( I say to myself ), just as good as asking anyone else.

Why restrict it to eastern states ones? Why not ask a Nunga too?

(what, didn't you know that "koori" isn't a universal name? Be careful
    about being politically correct....)
Both coppers and Aborigines suffer from being majorly stereotyped.

If you can't find any, you can try asking someone from Lakemba.

  12. Well technically, you should be asking the Koorie, Nunga, Nyoongah, Murri
and Palawa (probably a few others) too.

Whilst Zebee did avoid the use of the dreaded 'Aborigine' word a more
politically correct term such as 'Indigenous Australian' would seem more
appropriate to me. After all, it would be a shame to exclude the Torres
Straight Islanders who don't consider themselves Aboriginal people.

Whatever you do, don't ask them about tribes!

While your on your high horse Zebee, Go ride into the sunset will you!

In my opinion, What he's doing is a danger to himself & others around
him, And is also giving us riders a bad name. That's my opinion & i'm
    sticking to it!

Just a thought mind you. But, if all the people who stereotype other people
who label other groups and self-righteously defend those groups ( stay with
me on this ) aren't they as guilty as the ignorant people who do stereotype
other groups for what ever their reasons may be?
Don't you think that you are perpetuating these so called stereotype's by
defending those who don't need defending?.
I know a lot of black fellas, I know a few coppers, the ones I know, at
least, think most of the PC bullshit floating around is laughable. It is
quite alright to call them black fellas as they refer to me as a white
fella. Do they or I take offence?.SHIT NO!!
We do take offence when it is communicated maliciously, but most is said in
    jest and not ignorance.

What has happened to the good ole Aussie ethic of taking the piss?.

    Shells

    Possibly, what was it?

The discussion is "sterotypes, and how they are reinforced." Those are
two groups that have more experience than most of that. Better than as
    asking "just anyone" I reckon...

lane splitting at 80-90km an hour in slow traffic would be idiotic. anyone
defending this moron probably does it too. grow up. lane splitting is fine,
but for fucks sake at least be sensible about it.
