Crashed my bike :(

I could be wrong here, but you may be able to weasle out of paying this.

When my mate had his car nicked last year, the coppers told him where it
was. He asked them to leave it there, and he would pick it up at the end of
the day. Got there to find that it had been removed to a recovery yard
against his request. Refused to pay bill, got car back anyway.[1]

You could argue that you asked the police to leave it by the side of the
road so that you could arrange your own recovery. Spend the money you save
on a better jacket for next time :)

[1] There's more to it, but it really requires telling over beers. Suffice
to say, if you ever see a "Hinton Rescue" van coming to pick up your
vehicle, just set it on fire and claim the insurance. It'll be a lot less
    hassle...

Sorry to hear about your off Nick, but bones and things are OK which is
    what counts :)

Looking at your pics what I'd do is check no pipes are damaged coming
from petrol tank (i.e. see if you can work out where it came out) and
if thats safe then drill couple of holes to let you put two long bolts
in where right footpeg was (maybe just unbolt whats left of existing
one if brackets not snapped) and rear brake (if you CBA about the
brake), plug the plug back into the rev counter, wash off the worst of
the mud and ride it home.

Check the headstock carefully first though, the forks don't look bent
to me but I'm wondering if the headstock is smashed? Check brake levers
and things beforehand obviously, and with engine running turn bars from
lock to lock to ensure throttle cable isn't fecked, and have a little
pootle round the yard to see if the bike feels normal or odd.

With any luck you'll need right peg, rear brake pedal, right brake
lever & mirror, the bracket for the clocks/light unbending, surround
for the headlight maybe, rear cover for speedo & rev counter, right
front indicator. And might need new master cylinder for front brake.

It'll look 10 times better once you've washed the mud off, trust me.

You're still in one piece and walking, so that's a good thing.
Bit of gaffa tape round the clocks and it'll be fine. My old lid was
worse than that, it was fine - you just had to turn your head a bit
further to see what was coming from the right.

    BGN says...
I reckon 2-300 quid will see that bike back on the road again. Another
couple of hundred will have it back to sparkly. If the forks are bent
then you can have them straightened. It cost me 35 quid to have my
GPZ500 ones done and they were obviously bent. Even if they are bent
and no-one locally will straighten, forks come up on eBay quite
regularly and new stanchions from Kawasaki aren't as expensive as folk
think. From what I can see there, yours may just be twisted in the
yokes. The rest looks pretty good, new brake lever/pedal, possible set
of handlebars, headlamp shell/rim/bracket and an indicator should see
you back on the road with the rest left a bit scruffy.

Get the bike home, and then give it a bloody good and sympathetic clean
down, making sure you don't grind mud and grit into the paintwork. A
powerhose will help there. From then on you can get further advice from
Cheritons or Alfords about what bits need replacing/repairing and what
you can live with as scuffed up. Radiator looks fine, which is a bonus,
as is the waterpump. The major damage is to the clocks, but they are a
little fragile on ER-5s. Buy a used set from a breakers or eBay and
    save a fortune.

You got off lightly and those engine protectors did their job well,
    keep them.

If that's all the damage to the helmet then I'd just buy a new visor,
or a new Nitro :). Considering the battering your jacket took, I
wouldn't rule out buying the same again. A 60mph slide down the road
will shred any cordura material and lets face it, you aren't the
smallest of people so it will have been a fairly heavy impact with the
deck. If you want more in the way of protection from this sort of
thing, buy leathers. Corduara will keep you dry and warm, but don't
expect too much when it comes to crashing.

Email me if you need any advice or need to source parts.

They look a little bent to me. I bent the forms on my Bandit, and got
them straightened again. The old biddy who pulled out on me payed
    though,
Maybe. Being mindfull of the forks not being quite right.

Lucky him... a couple of years ago, I had one nicked on the Sunday
evening... spent the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights flying about in my
other car (1) looking for it in places in the local area famed for being the
favourite strip out and / or 'rag the tits off it' locations of the local
toerag community, only to receive a phone call on the Wednesday lunchtime to
say that it had been recovered on the Monday afternoon, and was in storage
    at a local recovery place.

I refused to pay anything other than the actual recovery charge, which they
accepted without too much of a squabble... hardly surprising, since they
were getting over £100 for plucking said car out of a field within 3 miles
    of their premises.

I laboured this point with Kent Police, who stated their policy was to get
the car recovered, then inform you of where it had been recovered to, to
ensure it didn't go walkies in the time it took between them informing you
of where it was, and you getting there.

In other words 'we don't give a ****, we just want to wash our hands of it
asap, regardless of whether or not you could actually get here relatively
quickly if we just rang you...'

    (1) Car pinched, was a Nova GTE... my other car at the time, was a Senator
24v... and I had every intention of ramming the little cunts into a tree, if
I'd seen them driving it - a fitting end, to two of Vauxhalls finest, I'm
    sure you'll agree.

Also, when I got knocked off at ~45mph in a belstaff padded
"pro-biker"[1] it didn't hole, and resisted abrasion quite well.
Melted in parts, but generally held together.

Me neither, but it's best not to rely on it as a method of keeping your
    bike upright.
