It's always nice to think you had an external excuse.

    [snip crash details]
They're nice like that, car drivers, aren't they.

I expect they assumed you were part of an ambush.

Kiran emerged from their own little world to say
It was Nick's description about the outer layer ripping followed by the
riding-up of the inner layers that got my goat.

Bad luck, that newbie. Still, you've ticked another box, and you're
here to tell us about it.

Not really... it could have been his skin that was being ripped apart in
that fashion - the jacket has done it's job really, hasn't it, and I've
always been aware that cordura isn't likely to take a tumble in its stride
as well as decent leather will, but then the price reflects this.

Jacket was fucked when the paramedics cut it.

Most stupid question of the night goes to Mother dearest.

After coming to the hospital and having me descibe what happened she
saw my arm that is buggered and says "How did you do that?!"

Well you can still type, so your gloves must have done their job... ;-)

As for the bike... you can buy another one if it's fecked - legs / arms /
lives in general, tend to be quite hard to replace if damaged beyond repair,
so try looking at it that way.

You can see now why we recommend naked bikes for newbies.

Payday? Result and now you haven't got any wheels you can get as pissed
as you like and not have to worry about your license.

    A bit of both.

They chopped it, but it was fucked already.

The Kevlar is still in there, but it had worked its way up my arm.
I'm not sure how it happened, but I assume it's something to do with
    movement along the road.

Also: I can't sleep. I think I'm still pumped up on this adrenaline.

    BGN says...
Before you go out and buy a new bike, it might be worth getting a
professional to take a good look over it and assess whether it's
repairable. You went down the road at 60mph, I've seen a lot of bikes
that have slid at far more than that be repaired, so don't assume it's
written off or uneconomical to repair. It'll possibly be cheaper to
repair than replace, but get it out of the car yard before they drag
any more storage/recovery money out of you.

That's what I was thinking. This is my first serious incident in
    three years of motoring.

I managed to have five police cars there by the time I was popped into
the back of the ambulance asking me what I was doing and how it
    happened.

I logically can't have been going over NSL as I'd just come out of a
tight bend and was just going into a normal bend. One of the police
said that I had probably underestimated the bend in the wet.

    Sounds good to me, officer.

The fit was quite nice... I normally have problems with things being
too small at my height and diameter.

Looking at the other arm, that had a good skid too, but the velcro on
the wrist was tighter than on the other. I remember that when I put
it on at work I meant to tighten the right wrist velcro... but forgot.
Not a mistake I will be making in the future.

I wouldn't know where to start on fixing it.

I'll have a look at it tomorrow @ KAP and see what it looks like.
There was the stink of petrol everywhere.

The police asked me what they should do with the tank bag, to which I
replied "What? It's still ON the tank?" "Yes, must have good magnets"
(I hadn't even strapped it on) but it stank of petrol.

    I shall take photos.

Do more than that, get it out of there. Someone on here can probably get
a trailer sorted for you if you ask nicely, and it'll save you a
    *shitload* of money.
You did say it was insure TP*F*&T, right? ;^)
Do that. I could use a laugh.
