Crashed Ducati 996S Vs New 999R

  1. Ok this is my first time posting and know relitivly little about the
technical details of motorcycle racing so thought i would ask you guys
for some help. I am the proud owner of a 1996 Ducati 996S. The thing
is amazing, and along with that my family own several harleys and a
buel so most time on the bike is track time. Becase of this it only
has 1500 miles on it. The other week after a great ride in the
mountains my dad and i were riding through town when a woman stepped
out from behind a parked car and in an effort not to hit her I went
down. All plastic damage except the clutch lever and gear shift.
Isurace wants to total the bike out with $9100 in damage. The shop
says they will deop their estimate to the total value if we want to
fix it. My question to you is do we fix the 996 or take a $9000 check
and get a new Ducati? i love the 996S and couldn't imaginge anyting
    nicer.

    Please help!!

    thanks

  2. A 999R is more than $32k.

And you've discovered that the Ducati brakes require just one
finger, huh? Based on your prior performance, don't buy a new
    Ducati just yet.

Total the bike, buy it from the insurance company, get a salvage
title, and repair the thing for a fraction of $9000.

  3. And, use it as a track bike.

  4. Yep. In which case cheap Sharkskinz (crude but effective)
will do for body work. For $9000 you could outfit the entire
    friggin' bike in Carbon!

Here's my totaled, reclaimed and fixed trackbike.

Total cost $562.00, all parts from Ebay. BTW, I had the orange body on it
when I wrecked. I still have the pristine silver stuff in the garage.
