Oh, ye font of knowledge, my neighbour has just managed to dent my week-old
(7 year old) car while shifting his bike around (see, still on topic).
Somehow he doesn't have a scratch but Ive got a slight dent about as long as
my thumb in a rear wheel arch. How much would I be looking at paying to get
this fixed? I really can't be arsed going to a garage to get quotes and
stuff, especially when theres a couple of previous scratches on the bumper
which stick out more. I'm thinking of just asking for £50 and then I'll get
it fixed next time I get it serviced, but I dont know in the slightest how
much it would cost. £20, £200?

Its a p reg honda civic if that makes any difference.

TBH, I wouldn't bother fixing it. I'd stick him the cost of an Indian
and leave it at that. If there's no paint damage it isn't going to
rust and won't get worse. It will hardly affect the resale value at
    the end of the day.

My wifes SOC had a bit of a mishap in Tescos - whilst it was in the panel
shop being rebuilt I got a previous shopping trolley interface on the back
done for £60 folding - small dent and scratch or the rear quarter.

    Personally I wouldn't bother.

  5. what colour and paint finish is your car, metallic tend to cost more than
    solid colours to fix

And 'sides which, the place you get it serviced probably isn't a body
shop. Ignore it, life's too short (easy to say when it's someone else's
car). If you did need it done, I doubt anyone would get off their arse
for less than a ton including vat.

No, this was an entirely sensible one bought from a dealer with one lady
owner and no alterations. Bloody common sense ruining my fun.

Good choice though. That's almost exactly what I've got except mine
    was from a private sale.

    25k miles on a 8 year old car :)

  9. In which case, it quite likely spent much of it's life doing journeys about
    3 miles
long. So it'll never have warmed up and the engine will have more wear
    than a
120,000 mile ex-company car. High miles don't mean an awful lot these
    days!

I think "trying to screw out" is a little harsh.

I'd prolly ignore it (as I said elsewhere). it would depend on *which*
neighbour. If it was the **** with the fireworks (who's been meek as a
lamb ever since my 'moody') I'd sue him.

Well, thats the thing, Im not reeeally all that bothered. It is a nice clean
car, and after having it for a few days I was a tad pissed that I thought I
    had hit something.
Yeah. but its free money like ;-). Im 22, hes 60, Im not expecting to be
invited round for barbeques and such if you see what I mean.

Ill probably end up telling him to forget it anyway.

    First hand experience:

Neighbour's kid rides his bike into my car leaving a 6" deep scratch
on the front wing. Cheapest Jaguar dealer quote was £300 quid. Father
of kid throws a wobbly when shown the quote and gets all aggressive.
He's one of Thames Valley's finest and should have known better, but
he's such a thick **** he doesn't even realise. After lots of wasted
time and forwarding and backing, I file in the small claims court.

Literally 5 days later his household insurers pay me MORE than I was
    claiming.

NEVER give up and NEVER be apathetic if someone damages your
property. FFS it's yours! You work hard all day[1] to get these
things so why should someone else get away with damaging them?

    [1] Well I don't, I just turn up ;-)

Why? 'cos it may be easier that way.

You issued a claim in the county court against a serving police
    officer???

    Blimey.

Yep. I was also ¦----¦ that close from phoning his inspector
regarding blatent dishonesty also. He's never tried to pull a fast
one regarding the cans on the Capo either, which has surprised me as
    they are 'fucking loud'[1].

If you take it to a top-notch place, assume £100 per panel, as an
    averaging-out sorta guide...

If no metal is showing, it may be worth more in goodwill to let it go,
    see Camps post...
