Crap: a quick guide

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Jan 12, 2005.

  1. I sat down with MCN this evening, and noted the front page banner:
Britain's secret superbike" and thumbed through to the double-page
    spread on TVR's new bike.

Two pages. One entire page was taken up with an artist's impression of
what it might look like. A panel on "What we think it'll do". A smaller
panel asking for readers' opinions[1]. Another panel giving five reasons
why it'll happen, one of which was the revelation that the father of the
Russian who bought TVR has bought into Ural.

I thought that was a joke, No, apparently it's evidence of serious
    intent. OK.

On the other page: another artist's impression, filling two thirds of
the page. Another box - "Who are TVR?"

    And the story.

Three column inches. One paragraph mentioned the Russian mentioned in
the aforementioned boxout, and directed you to it. Another paragraph was
a quote from a car pundit: a meaningless ound bit.

The story? "Someone at TVR has told us they want to build a motorcycle."
    Basically, three lines.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Somebody here fess up, please, PLEASE. Tell me
this was a ukrm thread that I missed.

Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, The Older
Sounds like the Monotreme attempting to ramp-up the value of his recent
    investment to me.

  4. It's utter bilge. The whole paper is utter bilge. I saw the headline
today and thought that if there really was a secret superbike I'd have
heard about it here first. I walked past the paper stand and vowed never
    to buy MCN again.

It takes me longer to read the Sun, and that's the truth, there's also
    more in it worth reading.

****, TOG, why do you have to post this stuff, it makes me so angry that
people even buy that fucking paper.

Well, excuse me for fucking *breathing*. ;-)

    </hm>

Count yourself lucky I didn't itemise all the erros in another piece in
    the rag.

I dunno why I read it. Well, yes I do: I have to. But trust me - there
are people out there who believe this sort of fantasy. I regard it as a
social duty to ensure that no ukrm reader falls victim.

That's what makes me angry. Just like when I have to go to court; I'm
afraid the magistrate(s) will see a baby eating, vicar spitting biker
and condemn me to a guilty verdict before he's even heard the facts.

Are the Maggies really impartial or should I get my "put yer fucking wig
on straight, you ****" act on now?
It's thanks to ukrm that I know some of the stuff that I do.

I mean, it'd be fucking *embarrassing* to be seen buying MCN.

    <rummage> Now where's that quote:

    Ah yes,:

"Alexander Smolensky, who reportedly now spends much of his time in
Austria, helped bankroll former President Boris Yeltsin's 1996 campaign.
After SBS-Agro's dramatic collapse, he famously told The Wall Street
Journal that people were stupid for trusting him with their money, and
that his foreign creditors deserved nothing "but dead donkey ears."
    It's rapidly becoming a classic mate ;-)

Al melling, the designer of TVR's newer range of engines, has actually built
a v8 bike. he tried to get it badged as a Norton, but the trademark fiasco
    ended that plan...
