Yep, agree 100%. They seem to be 'filtering' rather than overtaking for
    some reason.

Yeah, countless times and it was the circumstances of my first ever
bike accident, thankfully without the oncoming traffic. But now I
always assume that the tailgater is going to come out. Been knocked
off once, it won't happen again.

You had a proper bike and sold it because you prefer more sedate forms
of transport whereas some of us have remained loyal to the cause.

The ones with the slower bikes.

Yeeees it is hard to argue with. My cunning plan is to sell 4 POS and
add one jolly quick occasional conveyance. Slightly modified of course.

Your sig suggests that you actually have 6 POS so which ones are
    going?

Don't break any of your window panes now.

The ST and the 100RS remain.

I've only got the one POS and it's 'special' because only two people
have ever dared ride it to it's limits.
Does this mean you're opting out of future winter jaunts or are you
    taking the R100RS?

Makes it somewhat clearer. The car's right over at the left edge of the
road before pulling out, so I'd guess the biker was pretty sure he knew
he was there & was keeping left to let him past. Having seen that, the
car driver's a **** & should be done for manslaughter. Still think the
bike should've pulled out further, but I think he's been punished
    enough.

You what? Look, I've got several old pairs of specs here, various
prescriptions. I'll put them all in the post to you, shall I?

The car started to move out while the bike was still overtaking the
car behind, and it would have been very difficult indeed for him to
have seen the biker before starting his manouevre. The bike was
travelling at something like 40mph faster than the car, so would have
    just appeared from nowhere.

Of course, it's all a bit "there but for the grace of god go I", and I
feel nothing but sympathy for the dead rider and his family, but to
try and blame the car driver is frankly ridiculous.

I thought that the overtaking car had started his move well before the
bike was on him albeit slightly.

You can actually see the car's indicator come on just after the bike's
    finished overtaking the car behind.

I can't tell if the bike had its lights on or not, but it strikes me
that if it had it would have increased the chances of the car having
    spotted it several overtakes back.

What makes you think the car driver hadn't seen the bike?
I've seen a car driver go out of his way trying to stop me overtaking
recently and it was definitely deliberate.
My guess is that the headless biker didn't have lights on, as they
didn't reflect off the number plate of the first car he was seen passing.

They'd have been on permanently, just like every other ZX10R.

It was a ZX10R and I'm pretty sure you can't turn the lights off on any
    model of 10R

Pause it at 2:18 in full screen. The car's hugging the left edge of the
road, showing all the signs of someone who's seen the bike coming & is
keeping left to let it pass. The bike would also be clearly visible in
his right door mirror at that point. So either he didn't see the bike,
which means he didn't check properly, or he did see it but didn't wait
a second or two to see how fast it was going.
He pulled out without knowing it was safe to do so (obviously), & also
was in breach of the highway code by going onto the hatched area.
    Hardly blameless.

Maybe I'm being unfair, but having been side-swiped on the Tiger a few
weeks ago by someone who changed lanes without looking, & nearly
SMIDSY'd when out on the MV last night, I'm getting really sick of
people who just do a cursory glance before making a manoeuvre rather
than *looking* properly. And imo that's exactly what caused this crash,
    & why I think it's the car driver's fault.
