  2. A good point well made.

I remember when they first came out in a cruiser stylee, my brother
wanted to get one. He's always been a fuckwit.

I've got a soft spot them, being the first 'big' bike I rode. My dad
was building an ultra-trick Vincent cafe racer for a Scottish bloke who
worked as a crane driver in Saudi. He'd come back every six months to
see how his bike was coming on, & turned up on a CX once.

We lived in Aston Clinton at the time, & he needed to go somewhere in
Aylesbury, so I hopped on the back of the CX to show him the way. I was
around 12 at the time. On the way back, he stopped in the lay-by at the
start of the 'mad mile' & asked if I wanted to swap places.

Naturally I said yes, climbed on the front, & gave it the same amount
of revs I used on my TL125 before dumping the clutch. I have no idea
how we didn't crash, or why he let me carry on riding. It was probably
the best standing start wheelie I've ever done.

  5. I know this is utter bollocks, because the CX was shaft drive, and shaft
    drive bikes can't wheelie.

I should've guessed someone would wheel out that stinky old bait.
Besides, *everyone* knows that only applies in the Southern Hemisphere.

  7. No, you are getting confused (getting?) with Stoppies.

  8. No, he didn't. They can't, see, because of the shaft drive.
Which is chain drive, you gonk.
And you can't wheelie them, either.

  9. Bah. I could have spun that one out for ages. And the joke originated in
    rm anyway, IIRC.

He said it wasn't a dear crash and got it repaired, so it's still out there
    somewhere causing a traffic jam.

  11. Claret must be kicking in early tonight TOG (actually, aren't
you on SoAm?, so even earlier):

"Mr Purdie did not tell his insurance company about the crash because it
did not cost him much more than his £150 excess to get his bike repaired."

  17. Bloody hell, yes - that;s what they called it, I think.

I persuaded him not to, by pointing out the fact he'd look like the
**** he was and that me and everyone else would take turns at ritually
    beating him.

But you said "cruiser style" back there -->
and the SilverWing was a tourer style - a sort of mini-GoldWing
    (unsurprisingly).

Anyway, in the interests of trying to convince myself you've got it
    wrong I found this:
