I'm chuffed that I've got a decent sized bike again. The conversation with the mechanic reminded me of Champ funnily enough. Basically he said that there's none of this running-in at 1000rpm, 2000 rpm, etc, bollox. Just look after the bike for the first 300 odd km and run the engine in as you'd normally ride a bike.
I'm normally careful for 100 miles and then start to ease the revs up gradually until the first service and once that's done it's ok to ride it however I want. There's no reason why you can't get rid of the chicken strips within 10 miles though.
