He's pushing the bar forward (or pulling back) with the hand that's
    still on the bar.
No, that looks to be flash, who doesn't seem to understand what
countersteering is, or the fact that it's what everybody uses all the
time even though they may not be aware of it.

Eh? If he's in a bend then surely his right hand is on the throttle,
yes, so I assume he's taking the tear off with his left? Therefore why
can't he be countersteering with his right arm?

    Or am I misunderstanding/thick?

"Steve in 'knows stuff' shocker" :)

I have to admit that I'd never really understood the reasons for
weighting the outside peg until Sorby's post yesterday. I had before had
a tendency to just sit there and push the bar away, it flopped into the
    corner, job done.

However on the way home yesterday I made an effort to try in and it
    really makes sense.

He'd have a job countersteering round a right hand bend by pulling back on
the bars with his right hand.
<sticks toungue out> Exactly the point the article was making - anyone got a
copy of it? - the amount of countersteering needed is pretty small and
people going into bends thinking "Right I need to countersteer NOW!" are
    going to overegg the plot.

So if it's that hand he'll be pressing it forward, like wot I said.
Mebbe - but once they've tried it they'll quickly work out how much is
    required.

  10. Are you countersteering to get the bike to lean over? If not it may
feel like you cant lean it over fast enough entering the corner and
make you feel like you might run wide.

Try looking further ahead - basically as far ahead through the bend as
you can - it will drag you through quicker and you probably wont
notice your lean angle so much. Making sure you are on a positive
throttle through the bend will make leaning over feel better as it
unloads the front. A trailing throttle makes the front loaded and feel
stressed so the lean angle feels worse.

So since you're so good with the advice, how do I:

    1) Loft a minger off the throttle.
    2) Keep extra marital affairs secret.
    3) Invest the surprisingly large half yearly bonus I've just been given
before the wife spends it on shoes.

    :)

I'm actually severely tempted to see if I can trade the Gixer in for a
Fazer Thou! Anyone care to comment?

    Feel free!
Not an option at the moment, at least not without borrowing which I
don't really want to do at the moment.
Good advice, so carry on as normal then.
It wasn't *that* large a bonus.
Not entirely, but out of interest why is it such a bizarre thought?

My reasons for thinking about it are:

    1) I could get a much newer bike, hopefully without the electrical
    niggles the Gixer has.
    2) I use my bike 90% for commuting. At the moment my 'pleasure' riding
is restricted to the odd evening blast or rare weekend morning/afternoon
rides (this weekend actually woo hoo!).

Actually re-reading the second one it's complete rubbish, I only commute
20 miles a day which is no hassle at all.

Still I can't help but think that I'd like something a bit newer. I'd
actually like a new 750 but can't afford one and I think if I bought a
K1 for example I'd forever be wishing I'd bought a brand new one.

Ah, so you just want shot of a problem bike, like? Furry muff, but why
go for the fazer in particular? Have you looked at prices for used
gixxer thou's? ICBW but I wouldn't have thought they'd be _that_ much
    more than the fazer.
So? Dunno about your 750, but the thou would make a perfectly good
commuter and, of course, a much better weekend blaster.
It's changed quite a bit, hasn't it? AAMOI why would you be thinking
about another 750 instead of the thou?

Two things, as pointed out elsewhere:
    1. You don't necessarily have to countersteer in the corner (this
depends on the relative slip angles of the front and rear tyres). On
many bikes, when leant over, the handlebars are in fact pointing dead
    straight ahead.
    2. You can countersteer with one hand, you nurk! It's harder work,
cos you have half the strenght, but it can be done. How would that
bloke with only one arm ride, otherwise?
