It's one big round one for me, or two rectangular ones. It's all down
to personal preference. Mind you, I like the new Speed Triple, and
    that's got two round lamps.
I've just had a butchers at the R1200GS and it does look a bit lovely.
But it's more of an on-road bike. With the old model GS one would
think that it could be dropped, crashed and thrown on the floor a few
times without too much damage. The new one is so shiny and happy
looking that it will have quite an expensive bill afterwards. It's
not an off-road bike, as such, methinks.
Bikes should all be black or covered with mud, imho :)
shame about the eyebrows. Heaven knows what will have changed when I
get my new bike. I'll certainly give the Tiger a go.

I wish they'd do something, coz I've had my old-shape Tiger for over 8
years now, but just can't make myself love the post-98 shape like
    Verdi's & upgrade.

If I had the money, a new Speed Triple fitted with Tiger suspension
would be sat in my garage.

It's overdue for a major revision, I feel. There have been a succssion of
changes since 1999 when the "new" shape came out, and Triumph have done a
reasonable job of refreshing it - new engines, suspension upgrades, alloy
wheels - but the next thing it needs (imo) is a reduction
in weight, to match the GS. I don't think that'll be possible without an
    entirely new version.

One of the big advantages, though, is that the Tiger must have paid for
itself some time ago so Triumph can knock them out (relatively) cheap.
It's attractively priced, and they include luggage and stuff which would
add considerably to the price of its competitors - especially the already
    very expensive BMW.

If you are seriously going to wait 22 months (rather than doing your DAS
[1]) then you may find the V-Strom will no longer be avaiable - at least not
    new.

I have no idea what Suzuki's sales for it are like (low in the UK I believe)
but it's already a 3 year old design now - they'll either have changed it or
dropped it in two years time IWHT.

If they haven't changed it, I would still look elsewhere - at a guess BMW
will have revised the GS a bit more and Triumph will probably have
    remodelled the Tiger (a bit).

Other manufacturers (Yamaha/KTM) could also have newer models out.

[1] I think you will do your DAS

Feel around in front of the handlebars & you'll usually find it there.

    Like clockwork, isn't it?

Go outside, mount bike, kick up side stand, move bike, stop bike, lean
    02 07 21 25 31 43 bonus 37

Or perhaps not. If they are right though, remember who gave them to
    you.

I noticed that the BMW luggage was a bit on the expensive side!

22 months is "worst case scenario" should I just wish to let it tick
    over.

I'm going to book up a full day course with Channel again for the
middle of the month so that I can have an assessment of how they think
I'm doing. During this day I shall consult them on my options and how
long they think I'll need for the DAS/AAS upgrade.

I'm still very interested in doing Dave's two day course (when they
become available) but I'm just doing this one day course as a stop gap
as I would like to survive until summer gets in full swing.
I shall have to target big people at EoSM or similar and say CIHAG
    politely.
I know it sounds a bit sissy, but I am unlikely to buy a KTM as I
don't like their marketing strategy or their lack of spirit of
adventure. Yamaha I haven't looked at whatsoever yet.
I think they call it "AA" - Accellerated Access, but it's the same
thing, but not normally as long as one aready has an A2 licence.

Model is DL-1000 May 2004 (but K3 model I believe) static screen.

Screen is not very good - very susceptible to wind direction and what I am
wearing, beleive it or not - only discovered that this week when I didn't
put on my reflective jacket which is a big padded construction site
waterproof thing and everything was noticeably quieter in just my leathers.

i.e. Still looking for a better screen

I always put the sidestand down when I get off - no matter what my intent
is, to try and avoid these sorts of incidents - doesn't help if goes over
the 'wrong' way mind you - especially with the current bike :)

I've dropped my bike (stationary!) twice in the past few weeks, and
I've noticed that when I come to a stop I end up putting both feet on
the ground to steady me (never used to do it). First I thought the
only cause for this was getting into bad riding habits, but today a
nurse at work asked me, (as she saw me almost fall down the stairs
(again!)), if I had any recent problems with my ears!

Since my crash last month I've been far more wobbly than usual, and
have suffered from motion sickness when in cars, and coupled with icky
moments on stairs and wobbly moments at low speeds on the bike, plus
dropping the bike (more than usual) she decided that I should see a
doctor again regarding my perforated eardrum (which I did when I
whacked my head/helmet on the road during 'my little offing'), as
something in my inner ear may have been b0rk3d but not noticed until
    now.

There may well be a medical excuse why I can't ride properly :) He :)
