Maybe I'm being naive but, from my earliest days here, I've had a sense that there's always been a degree of honour in the group, maybe as much due to the fact that many have met/meet regularly IRL as anything else. Many of us have bought stuff[1], transferred funds overseas, etc for others with no fear of disappointment and, for me, the recognition that reputation is fairly important round these parts has made me quite comfortable in doing so. As others have said, one last chance to square things up and, if he doesn't, name and shame. [1]Nige even bought me a car, never having met me before.
I feel much the same. I post under my own name[1], and haven't met anyone IRL except Grimly, although I very nearly met dnc at Road America once. But I have done favors for a few people on the group and gotten some in return, all the while knowing that if I tried anything on that was even remotely dodgy, I would never live it down, and rightly so. There's a few on the group that I would have no problem with spending thousands on their behalf, knowing they value their reputations as much as I do mine. So, anyone who would take advantage of that sort of goodwill, fully deserves whatever opprobrium comes their way as a result. [1] Although I would not behave any differently if I used a pseudonym.
+1 to all that, although I've met quite a few more.
