Contrôle Technique versus MOT

I believe that it is going to change next year. As opposed to having
the plate registered to the owner, it's going to be to the vehicle
    (like in the UK).

So how's that different from you choosing not to accept a UK MOT more
than a month old - "Put a new ticket on, and we've got a deal, mate"?
    Why?

An MOT is considerably more thorough than a CT. CT repair standards for
bodywork are laughable. Trust me - I've bought cars off the French
before, then put 'em through an MOT...
No, but you still need one to use the thing. Cars without a ticket over
here are worth three-quarters of **** all. Because nobody in their right
mind would buy a car without a ticket.
Umm, why is that particularly good?
There's a list of fail items that don't have a retest fee on the MOT, too
    - but, more importantly, when you take it back for something NOT on that
list, a full test is done again. The CT free re-test just looks at those
fails, not the bits that may well have been borderline two months ago.

Why, the "I don't give a shit if hasn't been MOTed in 10 years and the
steering box is so loose it steers more like ship" model, of course.

So, if one has an old nail in three cardboard boxes: how do you sell
that to a punter Frogside, then?

  8. £1000? A grand? That's not a banger, that's luxury cheap motoring.

  10. Yes, I'd heard that. And aren't they going (well, they'd have to) to
dispense with the old 'departement' registration? I mean, your vehicle
will still be registered in whatever departmenet you registered it in,
but nobody will know whether you come from there or wherever?

Interesting, but those would be spare parts no?

A quick look at ebay.fr came up with a SO pug with this message:
A SAISIR SANS NOUVEAU CONTROLE TECHNIQUE

How does that work then given what Cab was saying?
The CT on the details (like ebay.uk entry for MoT etc.) is dated for 2
    years ago.

As I said elsewhere, it has to have the certificate. I don't know
whether it needs to say passed or failed on it though. If BD pops up,
    I'm sure he can reply.

Apparently this'll be the case. I like the department info, 'cos it
means you know the country bumpkins to avoid when they come to Paris
and likewise, when you're in the sticks.

Spain did this a couple of years ago.

    Fair point.
Because I've always been led to believe that a French CT is more
thorough than an MOT. If what you're saying is true, then I concede.
Yehbut as SD pointed out, at least you could buy a banger in boxes.
Unless as I said previously, it doesn't matter if the CT is a pass or
    fail, just that it exists.
    'cos it is?
True, but if the period is within a week or two, then there's less
chance that any borderline stuff will fail at a retest. Anyway, even if
there are bits that are free for retesting (I didn't know that), I'd
rather not be hit with a bill again for those that wouldn't be
    considered free.

I think it means that you can't get a logbook for it (according to the
geezer in the CT place today).

    (The Older Gentleman) gurgled happily,
sounding much like they were saying:
    I think my record's a ticket that'd expired 15+ years previously. And,
yes, I did test drive it...

Criticism of the van was neither implied nor intended. But what the hell.
You have to agree that despite it's winning features, the fact that it was
    ravenously capacious, oh, and free...
It was a shonky old dog of a thing, it even made you nervous when descending
the Mountain on the way back from the pits (me driving) with it's vague and
    wandering old ways.

May it rest in Peace(s) in the great scrapheap in the sky.

I'll admit that it's free nature caused me to overlook a few issues.

But really, I came to look on it like an old pair of slippers, when I
went to pick it up for each outing.
It wasn't so much the van that bothered me, as your driving...
    RIP.
