So after many years of having agreements in place, the French are
finally starting to issue speeding fines for foreign vehicles. Just
got one from our run down to Rocamadour, 121kph on a 110kph bit of
autoroute hear Belfort. EU68, or EU45 if it's paid in 45 days, so not
too bad[1], but it means we need to be more careful in the future.

Whether they'll be doing the same for UK plates yet I don't know, and
of course all the fixed cameras (that I know of) are front-facing so
bikes are safe, but it's worth bearing in mind.

[1] Unless of course the two flashes we got on the way home will also
    be followed through...

As you live in France it would be hard to escape but I wonder if they would
successfully serve it up in England

did you read the 1st line?

Bruce has CH plates, presumably registered at the Engelberg flat

As long as we still have the good old pound sterling that might slow
doing things by correspondence course up a bit.

Thanks for the heads up. I know where most of the fixed cameras are on
our route to 'the chateau' now, but I have seen the very occasional
mobile speed trap. Though in that case I guess they have Gendarmes
waiting to pull you in anyway.
Perhaps some departments may be quicker to process the 'catches' than
    others.

Yes but he *lives* in France so were he to ignore it the matter might catch
    up with him

It would be no more or less difficult for me than for anyone else on
furn plates who crosses the franco-swiss border every day...

    So yeah, as you were.

Hehe. But no, I knew what it must be by the Republic Francaise frank
on the envelope before I opened it.

As Hog suggests, there's no question of me not paying it. And it even
stated that there were no points deducted, so I'm not yet at risk of
    being banned in France.

Coming from the south I found plenty of back-facing cameras. However they
were all announced 500 metres before and were easy to spot (grey boxes with
    yellow/black stripes on the corners).

ITYF that there are already reciprocal agreements between Switerland and
    France (Jan 2010).

I don't think that the agreements are in place between the UK and France as
    yet.

It'll be broken number plate time if they do set up an agreement.

They're probably going to remove the annoucement panels soon. It's in
    discussion at the moment.

Whilst I don't like speed cameras, I've accepted the fact that they're here to
stay. However, if anyone wants to convince me that they're for saftey and not
revenue, they need to be brightly coloured (like in the UK) and be removed
from areas which are not, or are no longer, blackspots.

TBH I thought the agreement, in principal, had been around for years.
Right. I note that the worst cases are of French residents being
pursued by the Swiss plod, which I do know of happening to one friend
who's a frantalier a couple of years back. So it's as I thought; the
agreement has been in place for a while, but the infrastructure to
implement it has only recent;y started operating bith ways.
I think the agreement is, but perhaps not yet the infrastructure.

Oh-oh. BTW, what's happening about CT for bikes? The new owner of the
Voxan was amused to be handed UK MoT certificates for it.
The siting of them in France often seems to have some logic, but there
are one or two on autoroutes that don't appear to be at necessarily
    blackspots.

That's been long debated in Spain, where now appear to be generally marked,
    but not so easily visible.

A GPS with their positions and alarm is of great help.

In the discussion phase. Nothing concrete as yet and I don't know how likely
    it is.
You could be right. IME, in the IdF, there aren't any in areas that I'd call
blackspots. The autoroute ones are a right PITA.

Whatever. My point was that I don't believe that cameras should be sited in
areas where there is very little risk of accident or no significant numbers
of accidents have occured in the area.

In France, certain departments entertain the idea of little black cut-outs to
    show where people have died.
I use one quite often in the cage. Apparently illegal to use in Germany.
