Congestion Charge - Wondered how long this would take.

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Benny, Mar 24, 2005.

  1. You know, and I've said this before, it takes me longer to read the Sun.
I also find the column inches in the daily tabloid far more
    entertaining.

MCN is fucking shit. Always has been IMO. In fact, there isn't a single
bike publication that I buy regularly any more, they're all a bit pance
    [1]

[1] Wait for the word pance to get published in a month or two now as
    well.

  2. It was a bit touch and go there for a minute but my "Ken's not a ****"
    stance stays.

[1] We shall see if he changes his mind now I've waved that little fate
    tempter.

I don't get to vote for him but I would if I did. I like his Little
Londoner attitude, it is important in his job.

TBH, if I faced the £5 charge every time no matter what I was driving, I'd
chop the scooter in for a durty big diesel Rangie.

Good job I mostly don't work in London.

  6. to say well done for "testing" concepts with the voting public to see
how or whether the Mayor can get away with controversial ideas. This all
smacks simply of "flying kites" to see how quickly they get shot down. A
    classic political technique.

  7. Thank the Fucking lord I was all set to shoot the non driving non riding
**** wit. I am not even sure he could get away with it as it's a
complete reversal of his previous position that bikes don't cause
congestion and the charge by it's very name denotes it's purpose. Hence
to use a congestion charge as a road safety measure in reducing
accidents where it has been stated that the subject does not cause
congestion falls foul of national and international law, including the
human rights legislation viz the right to free and unimpeded travel.

Which, in all probability, was partly the Standard's intention.

I like him. Have done ever since he said (On, IIRC 'Have I Got News For
You') 'All politicians are wankers, and I include myself in that.'

Guess which paper was pushing the "Ken shows the hypocrisy of a Jewish
journo using a Nuremburg defence" non-story?

    Bear says...
Unlikely. The Standard[1] has always been anti CC. First claiming that
it wouldn't cut congestion and then when its was obvious that it was
they went on to blame CC for ruining small businesses. They're fairly
    anti Ken in most things.

    And the crosswords crap.

I'm sure the 'facts' are right in that somebody in TfL considered it
along with loads of other unreported ideas. It might have been rejected
fairly quickly but then that wouldn't have made such a good story.

Maybe TfL haven't got enough money to build new bike bays with integral
ground anchors and CCTV to protect the bikes from pikey scum. Once TfL
get the CC money from bikes and slopeds they'll make everything
wonderful giving out free gifts to every biker who enters the CC zone.

Yeah, me too. Just because I live in Edinburgh I think London set an
example that we can live up to.

  16. Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not but TfL are responsible for a
tiny proportion of bike bays. The remainder are down to local councils
who have already tried to charge for such facilities and failed. The
Westminster trial of paid for parking bays was quietly dropped with no
explanation being proffered. I cannot see such schemes being taken up
again and I don't think it would be TfL anyway.

    I was taking the piss.

The authorities, whoever they may be, don't care unless there's money in
it for them. If it were otherwise there would be ground anchors at every
    bay for example.

  19. I liked his answer during an interview when he was asked:
"Why did you present yourself to the Queen during (such and such) visit
when you have openly declared you are anti monarchy?"

    Answer:

    "My Mum told me to!"
