Reductio ad absurdum is hardly a debating tactic of morons, it's in fact
a very good and useful tool for highlighting logical inconsistencies and
fallacies in an argument or mathematical proof. Examples of it being
used by some of the finest minds in history are myriad.

First documented as being taught by Aristotle, who was anything but
    mentally retarded

So in Gerry world moron= "anyone who disagrees with me" as opposed to
the dictionary definition "a stupid person" or the psychological
definition "an adult with a mental age of 7-12"
There's little evidence to support that assertion, posted on ausmoto anyway

    JL
(and I personally have utterly no time for the OMC's btw)

See below... but for now, let's reference this back to to who we're
talking about here... Our very own Doug...

Doug had no trouble with the idea that Afghanistan had to be trashed
because clearly Afghanistan was complicit in the 9/11 atrocities.
His NRA mate, George W. Bush said so. Doug had no problem with the
spilling of the blood of tens of thousands of Afghans in that
instance, yet he begs for saninty as soon as a few of his compadres
are getting heavied. He's a hypocrite and so are his mates.
My learned friend, "nearly impossible to prove" does not equate to
"not complicit", so I'd have to disagree with you.

Some serious justice, Doug. I see no inconsitency. I''m not saying
they shouldn't be dealt with by due process or not get a fair trial.

Hicks clearly wasn't getting a fair tria,l but you had no problem with
    that at all...

But as soon as it's your crim thug stand-over mates, you go all
    funny... Hypocrite...
I'm happy to accept that half the population are probbly attenion
    seeking gits.

That's why I didn't call it reductio ad absurdum.

    Pay attention:

    Doug said:
Now, can you remember what the context of this thread is about, John?

Well, within that context, for Doug's comment to be "in context" we'd
have to have a rocker-wearing HOG Or Ulysses member brazenly walking
    into an Outlaw club's premises.

    Ridiculous analogy.

Re-reads - OK, cool, from the explanation it's now clear what you meant
and you're correct with that version, but the wording was a little loose.

When you connect "it used to mean something legally" with "by the..wild
west...the law had pretty much dropped off the books" in the same
sentence, then there's a heavy implication of continuity of statute.

Of course, it's not terribly difficult. You object to the OMC's
objection to the UC wearing rockers. You are also making unsubstantiated
accusations about their behaviour while objecting.
No it's not, it's an example of reducing to the absurd. Not perfect
though. The version in another post of dressing as an exserviceman
without actual service is more appropriate

    JL

(And I think you'll find the guy who got arrested for doing exactly that
last year didn't get charged for that per se - if memory serves he got
done for fraud(1) and everything else they could think of to book him
for - if I know the blue gang at all I'm sure it included resisting
arrest and assaulting a police officer as witnessed by the other police)
1 He obtained some service or goods in the process - probably a free
beer at a pub or something

I just can't understand why G rages against outlaws for telling people
to remove rockers when the only people who want to wear rockers want to
    be outlaws.

He'll fight to the death to defend anyone's right to wear colours up
until the point they actually wear them, at which they become
    "psychopathic, monstrous, power-crazy, control-freak, stand-over thugs".

Sega, Nintendo etc had plastic guns which connected to their consoles
for shooting simulation games in the 80s. Why would you need real guns?

I needed real guns to eradicate feral animals whilst employed by the
Queensland Lands Department and posted to Western Queensland. This programme
was a part of disease control measures and included the destocking of areas
under quarantine and the eradication of pigs, goats, dogs, feral cats, feral
horses and other introduced species. Over a period of 6 months I must have
shot tens of thousands of rounds from 4 wheel drives and choppers, let me
tell you not much fun after the first few days and a bloody sore shoulder
    for a long time after.

Real guns were also needed whilst I was in the army for obvious reasons.

Due to my training and expertise in the use of small arms I saw them as a
tool of the trade and took pride in developing my skills as a marksman, and
my skills in maintaining my weapons and loading my own ammo for sporting
    shooting and target competition.
