I think that's rather marvellous. Anyone got the programme on video?

    Foot? Michael Foot?

    Don't *think* so.
But further development of the aircraft was never really on the cards,
was it - surely a case of foresight being correct.

I think it's sad, too. I think it's scandalous that BA are allowed to
retire it when someone else wanted it:

The fact that I have truckloads of Virgin Flying Club miles has little
to do with my chagrin, you understand.

Yeah, bring back the cold war and lets see some *real* military posturing.

I really like the N. Korea reports, spesh on their own film stock. Happy
    sigh.

This is something I don't lose any sleep over. There are much bigger and
    more insidious fish to fry.

  12. I think I meant Weggy Benn I was a bit pissed off with it all this
    morning.
There was already a Concorde B in the proposal stage. It was based on
the original but with longer range loiter etc. Proposals had already
gone in from Elliott automation (where I was working) for the B phase.
But it relied on the jigs of the original.

Ben Blaney was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
OK, I didn't read the press release you link to, but from other
informed sources I've heard that Branson wanted to use it mainly as a
publicity stunt and quietly retire it in 6-9 months.

The main problem AFAIK is that
Aerospatiale/Airbus/WhoeverProvidedSpares threw their hands up and
said "we can't maintain them any longer".
    Heh.

They went one step further and are revoking it's type certification at
the end of the month so it can lo longer be used as a commercial
    aircraft.

I thought that's what you meant.

However, your original paragraph - before my snipping, etc - implied
that Foot (Benn) sanctioned - or even was aware of - the destruction of
    the jigs.

I just can't believe that an intelligent person can have a single, good
    reason for keeping the cunts.
    Oh yes.

Fair enough. You're someone who likes to believe gossip. Whatever.

I'll paste the salient point of the press release:

    <start paste>
When the Conservative government gave British Airways Concorde for £1
they said that if another British company ever wanted to operate it they
    could.
And that would then be Virgin's problem. Who are BA to get in the way
    of it?

More dirty tricks, that's what it is.
