I was thinking about getting a Schuberth Concept as my next lid, but only
because of the flip-down sun visor. Then I found this:

....which I think I might try first. Anyone else used one of these?

    In
Nick Sanders used a bit of gaffa tape, but I suppose that would have the
same effect, although obviously lower in quality. :)

    How are you repairing Platty?

I like the idea of something tinted that I can look through. The flip-down
visor would be ideal if it was fitted to an Arai. This seems to have the
potential to be the next best thing, and at seventeen quid a pop, I reckon
it's worth giving it a go.
Coming along. The bones have stuck themselves together with big lumps of
callous over the past couple of days, and I'm now trying to get some
strength back into the left shoulder. I managed to take the Platybus out
for a trundle this morning, and that went quite well, so I may be back on
the bike in another week or two.

  4. Do you *need* a flip-front helmet because of wearing glasses. If not, go
for the Schuberth S1; same sun-visor but without the wind-noise, weight and
width downside of the Concept flip front. The Concept's good, mind, but the
    S1 is streets better.

  5. I've seen those before but IYAM, they're still overpriced tat.

Get yerself an inch wide strip cut out of the side of an ice cream
container, spray it black and get the same results :)

No, wearing glasses has never caused me any problems, helmet-wise.
    I might just do that...

Glad to hear it, I hope you make a full-enough recovery quickly.

My insurance claim is still no further ahead, the guy who hit me is being
tremendously unco-operative, so I don't hold out much hope for a speedy
return to two wheels. In the mean time, I'm trying the best I can to fix up
the R6 and get it back on the road. eBay and patience are all that's
    required, I hope....

You could try a Schuberth S1 instead of a Concept. I seem to have an
"expensive model Arai" head and the Schuberth is an even better
fit. And of course it does have the handy flip-down visor as well.

You don't actually need to put a match to it. Not as visually pleasing
mind but it would see of the grass equally well.

I've heard that the S1 is remarkably heavy, and the visor has questionable
optical properties. I guess I need to try one on.

Yes it is but by way of compensation the grass does turn a quite
delightful shade of orange for a week or two as it goes through the
    process of dying.

A microwave accidently got broken during the move. We'll see if this
one dies more impressively than the last. It will de done in stages,
starting with the toothpick experiment and working up through the bar
of soap with a pause at metal.

Petrolcan, did the video of the last one's death capture anything
worth watching or just your beer stained form wondering if it was on
    yet?

I suppose it would be possible to be a bit artistic, rather than evenly
    spraying the whole lawn.

    "****" would do nicely.

    Dont forget a cut grape.
Well, I have the makings of an hours worth on tape but TBH only 5 mins
of it is worth watching. The bit where Molly scarpers is quite funny
    though :)
I really must get round to a final edit.

Now, if you are going for that sort of effect then you want something
instant, persistent and probably granular in form. Pathclear (I think)
just before rain does that nicely. Good for a couple of years that is.

platypus was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
It's slightly heavier than an RX-7 Corsair (1500g vs 1300-something)
but not by much. I certainly don't feel it's "heavy" - I've worn it on
a couple of 8 hour trips and it was fine. And I don't exactly have a
    weightlifter's neck.

As to the optical properties of the visor, I don't know who told you
that. View from the inside is slightly better than on my old Shoei
with a FogCity fitted, and the Schuberth Visor has an antifog coating
    as standard.

The two issues I've had with it are the airflow inside the helmet
which is adequate but not more, and the occasional drop running down
    the inside of the visor.
