    Hullo,

Tesco are doing some deals on emachines with MS Vista Home Basic/
Premium at the moment - anyone bought one, anyone want to comment,
    anyone?

....and, while I'm on about it, should I go for Vista Premium or Vista
    Business?

  3. If I were in your shoes I'd stick with XP if it's an option.

AFAIK there's no compelling reason to use Vista over XP and likely to
be a significant number of reasons (AKA bugs and security holes) to
    avoid it,

    Cheers,

Ok now after the usual replies have been and gone, I think it's not
worth getting until the first load of service packs are released and
some more hardware vendors have proper drivers. There have been a number
of reports of some software not working under Vista that worked fine
with XP. Also a recent test said that the MS security was poor, it
didn't block the current virus test attacks and that a number of AV
vendors have complained that Vista doesn't allow 3rd-party AV tools to
    run.

My friend has just bought a new PC with Vista installed, it looks pretty but
there are a few problems. For example, not all the drivers are available for
the sound modules and will not be ready until the end of March. There are
also a few application problems, she wished she had XP now.

  8. From what I've read on other forums, emachines use a terrible cheap PSU
which has the nasty habit of blowing and taking out everything with it
    when it goes.

Well I installed it together with AVG 7.5 anti virus on two separate
machines and have problems on both with it

There's a good comparison chart of the different versions if you
scroll 2 or 3 pages down on :

I've skipped straight from Windows 2000 to Vista as I couldn't see any
earthly benefit of XP. And I use XP at work...

I went for Windows Vista Home Premium as the best compromise of
    functionality against cost.

    Cheers,

    Paul.
