Computer woes

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Paul Corfield, Feb 12, 2004.

  1. As some of you may know I purchased a new PC from Multivision Computers
last Autumn. In brief it has never worked correctly and after much
debate and farting about resetting of Windows I eventually persuaded
them to undertake a warranty check and rectification.

Upon return from my recent holiday I had monitor problems, I had the
blaster virus, the BIOS is malfunctioning and Windows XP and Internet
Explorer are as unreliable as ever despite reloads and updates. I remain
convinced that there is a hardware fault on the machine itself.

After no response to E Mails I checked their website to discover they
have gone bust - JP please note as I know you have a PC from the same
company. Any queries / claims to be made in writing to the company
    address.

In anticipation of being told to **** off by the Administrators can
anyone advise on a decent company or individual who could check the damn
thing over, diagnose the problem(s) accurately and then be prepared to
undertake the necessary repairs. I *really* regret not sticking with my
    established PC supplier (Viglen).

  3. OK noted.
I think you are mistaking me for someone else. I'm not sure I could ride
like a fuckwit at present never mind to some apparent level of
    competence.

Hmm, sure it was you a couple of years back. Oh well. Diagnostics are
free in / around Harlow / London. Repairs are negoatiated after diagnosis.
(No obligation) Better finish the post afore it gets too commercial.

Try "burnintest pro" from www.passmark.com 30 day trial.
Should be able to spot hardware probs.

While knoppix is a rather neat Debian based OS, ad useful, it is in no way
a diagnostic tool, capable of detecting memory errors, for example.

Not unless his first name is Paul as well

I've just checked my old mail archive. The offer was made on teh 13th Feb
2002, the day I passed my DAS:

    quote:

"Want to learn how to ride like a maniac in town traffic - just drop me a
    line:)

Darsy will teach you to wheelie and ride like a **** everywhere

Bring it round mine if you like - shouldn't take too
much to sort it. Plenty of beers in the fridge too.

Not at all. Just cos Koppix runs, it doesn't mean that it has to be a
windows configuration issue. It could still easily be hardware.
Indeed. You may be right. My money is on a dodgy RAM stick though, or
    possibly a IDE connector

I will. That was Bear making a general offer, not the specific one to *me*
that Paul made. The email of which I just posted.

I concede that it wasn't actually titled 'Ride like a **** 101' but it was
    close enough IMHO

I purchased a laptop from them in November, a mere few weeks before
they went tits up. Luckily, so far, I've had no problems with it at
all and am extremely pleased with the spec. for the money.

Let's hope it stays that way :eek:/

<snip> I know - I found out a few weeks back. Must say I feel rather
guilty as I recommended them to quite a few people. They`ve been going
for a long time and I`ve had no problems at all with my one.

Feel doubly guilty as your views certainly helped swing my decision to
    buy from them.

  19. Well there's a first - being compared to Bear.

And there's another first - being (loosely) compared to Champ.
I do recall this and had assumed that was what you were referring to in
your quote. I still think my skills will be distinctly rusty as I
haven't commuted by bike for well over a year - possibly two.
