Appaled and disgusted by the lack of service and poor treatment at
    CALTEX/SAFEWAY - Coburg North. 565-581 Sydney Road.
    Approx 2:30pm August 15, 2011
I parked my motorcycle next to a bowser, got off and removed my helmet and
    gloves.
I removed the cap from the tank and started to fill it up..
    Well I tried.
I tried for a while until a lady that worked for the "service" station
    strolled out.
She asked me for my rego, I miss heard her and confirmed if the bowser was
    working.
It was confirmed that the bowser was working but she had to note my rego
    before she would activate it.
She then asked if I had a rego!?!?!?!
I explained it was on the rear like all motorcycles in Victoria.
I also explained I was not happy being left standing and waiting. I
personally find the night time pay before you fill offensive so avoid
    filling up and night...
It was explained to me that she was just doing her job and it was
    Woolworth's policy.
Can you please explain to me this policy of treating motorcyclist like
    potential criminals rather than customers?
How is this policy implemented for those that wish to fill up a container
of petrol but don't have any vehicle?
Why have I not had this trouble before at the above mentioned "service"
station or any other "service" station?

  3. Never had a problem like that when filling up in Canberra. Normally use a
Shell outlet when filling up near home late at night. Thanks for the
    information on certain outlets.

I have never had any problem like this before. I normally use the
Woolworths/Caltex servos at Frankston and Keysborough, Victoria
(admittedly the only reason is I have a pay-at-the-pump card). I
regularly get hard-stared at by cagers who think I'm riding off
without paying. On a couple of occasions the reader hasn't been
working at the pump, so I had to fill up and pay in store like
everybody else. The only thing that comes to mind is perhaps this
station has had a few drive-away petrol thefts? Do the cameras on the
forecourt look at the front of the car? Try parking the other way
round and see if the afore mentioned troll comes out.

As for people naturally assuming you are a criminal, that seems to be
the way the world works these days. Not long ago a librarian refused
to renew a book for me because I didn't have my library card. When I
said "never mind I've got the receipt for a book mark, you can get the
card number off that" and I was told "you could have picked that
receipt up in the street". That's right, she's simultaneously falsely
accusing me (as the borrower) of litter and me (as the renewer) of
identity theft. What type of master criminal would steal a library
book and then try to renew it before it was due?! The only way to
avoid being fined was to hand the book back and come back later with
my card to take the same book out again. I can fully understand your
anger at the way you were treated. More like seething rage.

I will look and see if they have a pay at the pump option.

Two great things about the USA.

    1. Pay at the pump in almost every petrol station in the country. (The
only petrol station I recall that didn't have P.A.T.P was in some two
    bit town in Virginia).

    2. Turn Right at any red light

Never had a problem in Gerro on two wheels or four. Maybe it was mistaken
    identity.

  8. The second reason is what made riding a bike in the USA terrifying.
Just because you are riding up to a green light it doesn't mean someone
in a 20 tonne SUV isn't going to pull out right in front of you.

The biggest threat I found, particularly in the eastern and southern
states, was drivers often changing lanes without indicating, but never
had any issues with drivers turning right into my path, either real or
    imagined.

  10. I rode in Nevada, mainly around Vegas and found the quality of drivers
was about a million times better than here in WA. Particularly lane
discipline. But every set of lights I came up to I had the thought of
some dickhead not seeing me and pulling out. I slowed down every time.
And one time it probably saved me from a major accident.

If you re-read that link you'll see that it says "(2) However, if the
traffic lights are at an intersection with a LEFT TURN ON RED AFTER
STOPPING SIGN and the driver is turning left at the intersection, the
driver may turn left after stopping." I can't recall ever seeing any of
these in NSW, but I did see one in Canberra about 15 years ago.

In the USA turn right after stopping is a blanket law covering every the
entire country except New York City. I only did one right turn in NYC
and it was at a green light.

and just to add to that, compared to the USA, Australian cities have way
more left turn slip-lanes, which make the left turn on red redundant and
actually provide much better visibility and much safer passage into the
traffic stream for left turning traffic (and even allow traffic to merge
into a traffic stream where they wouldn't be able to at a 90° corner),
whereas in the USA, because they can turn right on red, the slip lanes
are very uncommon, so their solution isn't really better than ours,
except when you get to an intersection where you want to turn left but
cannot because there is no slip lane... but I really enjoyed the novelty
    of it regardless!

First time I hired a car in the USA was in Bedford, Mass. Hotel porter
drove me down to the car rental, chatting to me, "Business or
Pleasure?", "Have you been here before?", "Have you ever driven in the
USA?". Answer to the last one was "No". When I got out of the shuttle
the cheeky little prick said "you mind if I hang around and see which
car they give you? I'm going to text the plate to all my friends so they
can give you a wide berth".

But usually you get stuck behind some bastard who pulled into the left
lane only so he could be at the front rather than behind someone who's
going to accelerate just as fast as he does anyone. Crunting fecks.

Anyway, I WAS TOLD in NSW it was fine to do a left hand turn at a red light
so long as you give way.
First day they had that rule in NSW accordin to the cops (Capt Cook Drive
and Cawarra Rd) I got wiped out on my GPX750 by a fuckwit in too much rush
to get to his wedding. Apparently he was sorry... The first thing I remember
as I rolled up the road bikeless was a sand truck coming from Kurnell sand
hills attempting to stop about 40ft from me laying in the center lane and
the grill bouncing up and down...

I got a second email (after refusing an invitiation to call) that
basically explained all the above was a misunderstanding at the above
    address.
I get the idea the woman has been "re-educated".
Cameras only face traffic entering from the front.
I will pop in later next week to see how/if the service has improved and
if they have the pay at the pump option.
