Ear to the ground, nose to the grindstone, shoulder to the wheel.

Damn but that's an uncomfortable position!

Because I can't see that it's easier to copy and paste the URL than
just to write the words in question - "DT125 forks" in this case.

Oh, that's right: it's very fashionable to post ebay URLs.
Well, as I said, a URL doesn't help someone with the same problem who
(correctly) searched google before posting to the group. It's the
same principle that led to FAQs being published.
I, however, don't defer to your moderating of my expression of
preference, which was backed up with logical and sound argument.

Here. Have you not seen how many ebay URLs are posted with no other
Oh, I'm sure that's the reason. I'm just suggesting that for it might
be more useful to include the information in the post concerned.

What about people who read offline? I know every man and his dog has
broadband, but I know that there are lots of people who read offline
for various, valid reasons. Those people could contribute if they had
    the information.

And, as I've said, the information in the text would assist someone
googling for the same topic in future.
I can't think of any conventions I rail against, off hand.
    I don't think he is a **** (apart from the goes-without-saying
    criteria for reading UKRM).

But I might call him one anyway.

I just find them tired old cliches.
I don't think that was me.
Ah, **** apologies; can I call you a **** instead?

You can get a crane licence for about 100 quid... that's all mine cost
If you got the job usually they'll supply the crane training free
