neither Ogden, Cane, Nige[1] or myself where /required/ to remove our
helmets at passport control - we did so as a courtesy and because it
was hot. As with Ogden, we then just rode from passport control to the
    ferry with our lids off.

[1] this thick **** managed to drop his on the ground whilst handing
    over his passport, mind.

  3. *Horrible* car. When the Voyager died and we were looking around for a
replacement we test-drove most of the MPVs (apart from Vauxhall - I was
put off by the horror stories from the one one of my brothers had -
things like the driveshaft popping out of the gearbox under heavy
    load..).

The Touran look nice but was a) uncomfortable b) slow and c) expensive.
And despite the fact that we had the money ready to buy the level of
disinterest from the dealer was staggering.

We settled on the FR-V iVTEC (1.8). Nice car, good forward visibility
(rear is a bit more limited than I was used to because the window size
tapers off towards the back) reasonably quick even in the autobox
variety. And a very good dealer (in Swindon anyway).

It's not previously been a consideration.

I've got a flip lid, but the Arai is much more comfortable, which is a
serious consideration if I'm going to be living in it for days. Possibly I
should get a nice old pudding-basin thing.

I generally don't bother to remove my helmet until I've got through passport
and check-in and ridden round to the boarding lane. I'd happily remove it
as soon as I passed the dock gates, if there was somewhere safe and
    convenient to stow it.
The safest place to carry a helmet is on your head.

I just stick my arm through it and wear it on my elbow. It's not going
to fall off there. Nige's problem is that he tried to balance it on
    his mirror.

This is my second concept, the first being wrecked along with the
fazer. It's quite comfy, a bit heavy but I like the pop forward visor
and the integral sun visor[1]. It's also the only flip I could find to
    fit my oversize noggin.[2]

[1] Which either needs a clean or I really should wear glasses

you didn't just "drop" it. You stalled your bike and it jerked off the
    mirror.

So this is why the mirror stalk was rigid enough to support a helmet?

With the Sunax visor thing, it won't fit over my jacket sleeve, and won't
break my arm if I fall off.

you know, whenever I do stuff bike related, I rarely think "what
impact will this have if I fall off".

I actually wear it on the bike.[1][2][3] It's very handy if my neck is
hurting and bloody lovely in weather like this.

    [1] Safety Nazis - FRO!
[2] It's fully road legal - has the proper kite mark and everyfink.
[3] I may look like a bit daft, to some, while wearing it, but I'm
comfy and pain-free, so :ppPpPp .
