    Not really.
One tankful of private mileage a month is almost 65 quid these days , and on
the example Zafira that's probably about 550 miles.
It's very easy to do more than that in a month including journeys to and
    from an office.

If it really is only 200 miles a month then it's not worth it , unless you
fancy doing a lot more trips out at weekends - very appealing when the fuel
    is free

I'm currently suffering a terrible shortage of bats, so am having to
make do, as it were. However, a double reply and a major whoosh
wasn't too bad for a Sunday evening. If only it wasn't for that pesky
    Scouse kid ...

In that case, there's only one that'll do - unless you want to be
(relatively) hammered on tax (even if the others offer it as an
    option).... VW Touran 2.0TDI DSG.

There should be a common-rail replacement for the PD engines coming soon
(already replaced them in the Passat and being used in the new small
4x4), which is more tax efficient than the PD lump.

    DSG isn't slush, it's a twin-clutch electro-mechanical manual, which is
better for emissions and can be had with 'flappy paddles'.

It's Doki. He's a student, but otherwise ok.

Studies weird animals or summat, should fit in perfectly here.

Rear seats are quite comfy. I've never driven one and have no desire to
though heh. In other news, looks like the Vee's time on my drive is coming
to close :-( I managed to get over that ridiculous Volvo C30 idea I had in
    my head.

If she can get one then the new ford focus is a whole world better
than *any* of the small MPVs on the market.

Same is true of most hatch versions of MPVs.

Personally I quite like them, they'll sit all day at around 85 with
reasonable economy, loads of room and fairly comfortable. I've driven
from Orkney back to civilisation in a day and didn't suffer and pains
or twinges. I've towed a 3/4 ton boat with no issues other than fuel
consumption rising and even overtook a posse of Harleys while doing
    so.

£10.5k for the 1.6S which isn't even remotely sporty.

I meant Clio V6s. "I've bought you a Clio darling..." Twas bad enough when
my uncle bought his wife a 182.

    Ahhh, £10k.

Too much for a car for the girlfriend. She'll only bend it.

I'd be grateful. Then she could stop claiming to be a better drive than me
    :).

Gonna put mine up at £11k I think, slightly ratty ones fetch £10-£10.5k.
Might be cheeky and say £11.5k with the plate/exhaust/stereo. Mine has the
huge advantage of been HPi clear and it's had the £1.2k cambelt done heh.

Get her one of these and send her out in the wet when she's in a hurry. The
learning curve is steep - and I imagine if you're not aware of the
    reputation - painful :)

Have the government closed the loophole that allowed you to claim a
pick up is a van so you pay either a lot lower or no tax at all on it?
