Committee ruling on obections about uk.rec.gps

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Chris Croughton as Control, Apr 28, 2005.

The Committee has received objections from six people; four were
objecting, one was explicitly not objecting, and one did not state
either way. Since there were fewer than six objections we have had to
consider them on their merits. Note that some objectors put forward more
    than one reason for objection.

The reasons for objections are summarised as follows:

    1. The proposal is not straightforward and non-controversial and should
go to a vote (1 objector).

We consider it straightforward and do not see it as controversial enough
    to require a vote.

    2. Objections raised during the RFD remain unaddressed (1 objector).

The Committee has not seen any objections which have not been addressed.
Lack of agreement with objections is not a failure to address them.

    3. Using GPS by itself is not a recreational activity, and the
discussion which takes place in different groups already is
appropriate there (apart from the technology, which belongs in
uk.tech.*). The placement of the group in the uk.rec.hierarchy is
    therefore unsuitable. (3 objectors).

This was addressed at length in the discussion, and a number of examples
of such activities were presented to refute this. People who want a
group in uk.tech.* have been urged to raise an RFD for it (and the
present RFD is no bar to their doing so); so far no valid RFD has been
forthcoming. Since the proposal under consideration is explicitly for
the use of GPS for recreation in the UK, the placement is correct for
    this group.

The Committee does not uphold any of the objections, and so the group
    will be created.

What a convoluted load of wank. (IMO of course). Wouldn't it have been
easier to just create the bloody thing and then have no one use it?

Considering the unreliable routing demonstrated by most GPS's, I feel this
idea may not have been the success it could have been.

You might have a point there. Pity really, I'd just finished working on
    the database of way-hay-hay-points.

It's a new relationship - one has to make the effort initially.

Aye bloody unreasonable isn't it. Still, there are a few techniques one
can employ to shut them up - some of which don't result in a slap.

She also made me take my trousers off the second I walked through her
door one day last week, but only coz she thought they needed ironing.

Third party related experiences, of course. Involving the deliberate
use of a bag of flour and aiming for the damp patch, IIRC.
