Anyone here got a criminal record, that they didn't know they had?

  2. Shower of utter fuckwits. I sincerely hope that legal action is allowed.

I was thinking the Govt might at least offer some of them Civil Service
posts if they're still unemployed, but whether that would work or not, I
    don't know.

Dunno. There's bound to be somebody out there who is a bad person and is
called Smith that I could be confused with. In fact, on a likelihood due to
similar names basis, I should probably expect to be shot down in the street
    any day now.
We're hardly going to be able to afford ID cards with all these new nukes
    we're slinging up.

  4. Unfortunately not. I think.

According to the Daily Mail which, I admniot, may not be entirely
accurate on this matter, the Home Office says: "It's the police's fault"
and the police say "It's the Home Office's fault".

All I know is that if there are are no-win no-fee defamation lawyers out
there, they're probably rubbing their hands.

How would we know? Can I phone up the CRB and ask whether I'm on the list?

I think this goes back to something we were discussing earlier. You can
only cut back, out source and "marketize" certain things, certain
amounts. I suspect we may have found the Civil Service's limit.

  8. yep , when I reapplied for my FAC last march they had me flagged up as a
child sex offender , a trip down queens rd nick in brum soughed it out
    though

Boy were they sheepish , they blamed the fact that they had three separate
systems in operation and operator error .

( I had been a witness to another incident in the same road on the same
    ay )

Should have seen swmbo face when the plod 'revealed' the crime .

Of course, the entertaining thing is waiting for the mistakes that have
been made the other way to come to light.

    Absolutely.

And I've discovered you *can* see if you've a criminal record or not,
on payment of a £34 fee. Didn't know that.

Now that is a *bloody* good point. Only I imagine it'll be rather
harder to find people who'll pop up and say: "My GBH conviction has

    conviction that isn't mine!".

  12. The two basic identifiers that have been used by the police for a
century or more are full name and DoB. Damn few Grimly Curmudgeons were
born on the 12th of April 1892, for example. Quite how the CRB managed
    to issue the wrong records to potential employers is inexplicable;
unless they were doing it on a 'ah well, it might be him/her' basis. If
that's the case, my categorising them as utter fuckwits is mild indeed,
given the devastating effect is has on those wrongly identified as
    having a CR.
