They were being slated on the radio today so I'd suggest that you
widen your horizons a bit further than your local newspaper.

Agreed. That's why my wife and I both take our motorbikes as our means
of transport when holidaying away from a beach. It's a good way to
really see some frustrated drivers when they're sat in a 10 mile
motorway jam and we're riding along in lane 2a.

    Not really.
IME they often are as well. In fact, OTW I tend to get held up more often
by those that think the 40 on a clear dry road with good visibility is a
suitable speed than by any other type of road users. It's also worth
noting that this 'failure' seldom occurs in isolation but will be observed
with any of the following (in no particular order)
    a) Incorrect use of main beam / head lights / fog lights
    b) Poor road positioning
    c) Incorrect / absent use of indicators
    d) Breaking when a vehicle comes in the opposite direction (when there is
    no need)
    e) Breaking for corners when there is no need
    f) Wrong lane selection

You will if the examiners deems that the conditions are suitable for 60,
    yes.

Do a bit of a google for Kawasaki ZX10R and see how many cars can keep
me at bay when I want to get a move on.

It's no good appealing to God. You're communicating with the greater
force known as the flat capper.

The best thing about caravans is that when they crash you get to see
just how much pikey tat the owners posess, as it scatters itself across
    3 lanes of motorway.

Would you pull over into a passing spot to allow a build up of cars to
pass if you knew you were holding them up?

I'm sure it's the A9 north of Perth where there are signs asking
caravans to allow cars to pass but I haven't been up there for several
years so I can't quote the exact wording or be certain they still
    exist.

Perhaps, unlike you, they are not Fernando Alonso. The good thing is I
guarantee eventually you too will get old and start to slow down. So
you are just looking at your future.

So its not insufficient speed alone that matters then
And you won't if they don't. So we've agreed that driving at 40mph in a
60mph limit will not get you automatically failed. QED

Bollox is it. That'd be classed as "lack of confidence" in a driving
    test.

Oh dear, is that the best you can do?
Why do you immediately assume they are all old(er) than I am?

Of course not, it's just another clue that they are drivers of a poor
standard. Since they are generally incapable of handling many of the
basics of road usage (as described above) I'm not about to take their
judgement on what would, or indeed would not be an appropriate rate of
    progress.

Erm, we were never disagreeing on that. You probably need to go and look
at what QED actually means as well.

The difference is that those driving at 80-90mph are breaking the law,
whereas those inaptly named "fuckwits" are well within their rights to
    drive at 40mph.

As Tony carefully pointed out, the assumption is plainly huge.

I am happy to accept that in certain conditions it is legally
acceptable to drive at, or just below, the speed limit for the road.

    Leaving out your huge assumption:

"If you do 40 in a 60 will fail just about any driving test"

    Is what you said.
