Come on, England !!!

  1. No, unless you count everyone who points out a glaring error as a
nitpicker. In which case you're tarring yourself with the same brush.

And no, not concerned about furriners.

Interesting, though, this misguided concern about speed limits and their
supposed key to safety. I mean, if in these sceptered isles I were to
select two nice single carriageway main roads, one with a 60mph limit
and one with no speed limit, and assuming both were the same as regards
conditions, bends, surfaces, weather, road furniture etc etc, why would
it be "dangerous" to do (say) 65mph on the one and not on the other?

  2. No, I did that yesterday, outside The Red Lion in Turners Hill and at
Standen, William Morris's old home near East Grinstead.

Glaring error? The majority of 60mph limits are the UK single
carriageways where car limits are 60mph and HGV limits 40mph. I am sure
you can find the occasional bit of dual carriageway or motorway with a
60mph limit but they are in a massive minority. So glaring error it is
not, nitpicking it is. Or do I have to surround all my posts with
caveats and footnotes to the exceptions to the main point?
Well for a start the speed limit is 60mph on both. But of course the
limit is a limit, not a target, so if street furniture, congestion,
parking, school outing, icy roads etc mean its not safe to drive at
60mph you are allowed to go slower believe it or not.

  5. Not necessarily. Read the posting again. (Aside to ukrm - it's like
shooting fish in a barrel, honestly)

    Evading the question.

    I repeat:

Why is it, according to the "exceeding the speed limit = danger"
argument, that doing 65mph on the former is "dangerous" and doing 65mph
on the No Speed Limit road not?

    Take your time

  6. I meant in years, dear, not frame of mind. <g> I intend to stay in my late
teens mentally as long as I can.

OK, where in the UK is there a single track public road not subject to
the national speed limit for single track public roads of 60mph?

The speed limit is the speed limit. Danger is only one element
considered in their setting but is it more dangerous to go at 61mph than
60mph? Only ever so slightly. Is is more dangerous to do 62mph than
60mph? Slightly more. Is is more dangerous to go at 70mph than 60mph?
    36% more.

But the reason speed limits were introduced were because it was found
that without them motorist didn not drive responsibly. So a cap was put
on speeds that for simplicity is the same for all vehicles of one class.
That's life, live with it. If you don't like it move to Germany.

Erm, if Joe Cole had not been a threat on the Paraguan goal so
panicking the defender into fouling him which lead to GB hitting the
round thing toward the rectangular thing so panicking the other
defender into trying to get their hairy thing on it to make contact
then there would not have been an own goal. So the England players
had nothing at all to do with the goal being scored ... at all. :/
