When the article said, "a chief constable," it was obviously him, even
    before reading his name.

You realise that article dates back to December, don't you? I'm not
questioning the validity and topicality of it, mind - just had a bit
of a flutter thinking that he was about to get even worse.

Actually , the fingerprinting I don't think is too bad.
There are a lot of unlicenced drivers who get a producer then are never seen
    again.
Fingerprints would help make them more traceable.

As for the 43 mph trigger speed , well thats just evil.

    revenue.”

    Naughty )

It did make me think though - if I got done by a camera for 43 in
a 40, would I take the 3 points or go on a 'road safety' course?
I guess I'd do the course to safeguard my license but it would be
interesting to know exactly what it would entail.

It consists of driving very fast up to a large box with a flashbulb in it.
You have to learn to brake very hard just before the box in order to avoid
    setting the flash off.

I always thought a 30mph camera went off at 33mph anyway.

I'm more miffed at the idea that I could have gone that little bit
    faster than I have been.

    Nice troll though :)

Yebbut I thought your speedo only had to be accurate to +/-10%
So that'd be the 43mph camera on overtime; <cynic> imagine how many roads
will suddenly get 40mph limits rather than 30mph </>
Of course, ISTBC by SWK, but that's what I thought the law was about yer
    speedo.

    This bit:
"Mr Brunstrom said that all forces should have the option of allowing a
driver to attend a road safety course rather than receive three points for a
speeding offence. At present only a handful of forces offer such courses and
    there is no national policy"

OK so it's a PITA but it's got to be better than 3 points on your licence.
Sod the fine, that's a slap on the wrist for being a bit naughty, it's the
    points that are pernicious.

    But then this:
"Police will be able to check the identities of people they stop for
motoring offences and cross reference with the National Criminal Database.
Several studies have shown that people who commit motoring offences are more
likely than others to be involved in other illegal activity".

    FFS!

That'll have David Blunket ejaculating in his underwear whenever he thinks
of Brunstrom, you mark my words!

A significant number of uninsured drivers who give false details are known
to the police and have their prints on record.
They'd be easy to identify after the event.
