  1. And it's definitely a breaker. It's had a *shitload* of money thrown at
    it and it needs a shitload more, to be honest.

    I want the exhaust system as a back-up for mine. Might swap the wheels
    and chainguard. But I'll cherry-pick what I want and the rest goes on
    eBay.

    I might be interested in the leftover wheels, forks and rear mudguard
    to bring mine back to spec if they are reasonable.
    Mine has the wrong (comstar) wheels so the front will need forks and
    brake. OTOH the entire bike is probably not worth spending too much.

  3. And I will be wanting serious mony for the parts, because that's what
    they're worth. Well, maybe not the forks. There's some small pitting on
    them but they aren't leaking.

    The wheels will fetch well over £200 a pair on eBay - maybe £250. The
    rear guard will fetch £150. The brake system will be well into three
    figures too.

    The forks I'll probably let go for £50.

    Hmmmm - I have a feeling that it might be a better idea to sell mine
    as a runner with MOT. Good parts are starting to get scarce and
    this is starting to smell like a money pit.

  5. They do. I've now been through this one with a fine tooth comb, and I
    can see why he decided to flog it.

    You could throw another £1000 at it without blinking.

    I've never understood why people baulk at paying proper money for old
    bike parts.
    The time and hassle of getting a pair of wheels rebuilt is well worth
    paying
    £250 for a good pair of wheels IMHO , leaving aside the originality
    factor for
    the rivet counters.

    I've started stripping the bike and have shoved some parts on eBay. I'm
    being deluged with requests for othger stuff, "will you take an offer"
    and the usual.

    The chainguard has 22 watchers already, after just 12 hours.

    I had a good long look at the bike. No way was it roadworthy. Or
    anywhere near. He'd just thrown all the brand new and refurbished stuff
    on, in some cases fitted incorrectly, and re-used all the horrible old
    rusty bolts. The entire bike would have had to come apart and then would
    have needed to be built up again, withprobably another £1000 worth of
    bits.

    A complete waste of hs time and money so far. I'm not bothererd because
    I could see what it was worth from the auction description, and I want
    some of the parts. What goes on eBay will get me my money back
    completely.

  9. That wasn't the plan. I wanted to have it as a pair for the red one, but
    decided that if it was a shed, I'd bust it and salt some parts away for
    mine - and have done.

    t was an utter fucking disaster. Everything was bolted on wrongly,
    loosely, fasteners missing, wrong fasteners used, the old manky rusty
    fasteners re-used on new components, wiring a mess, the list goes on and
    on and on. It was just thrown together and a million miles away from
    being roadworthy. Can't even get the bastard to start because the wiring
    is such shit: it's only firing on two.

    He said he'd bought it in boxes and had rebuilt it using a Haynes
    manual. Big mistake. You need a factory parts book for that - nothing
    else will do.

    The brand new OE exhaust it wore is now in my garage and will be greased
    up. Various other brand new or refurbished bits, like the sidestand,
    indicator mounts, some cables, etc etc, will be transferred to my bike
    as well.

    Thisd was an object lesson in how *not* to restore a bike. I don't mind
    because I've scored £2000-2500 worth of parts for just over a grand.
