Colleague's bike prang

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Sep 30, 2003.

  1. In his new (to him) motor, and he collided with a bike. Him turning
right in front of oncoming traffic, bike coming towards him, swears he
saw bike *way way* back and knew he had time to make the manoeuvre, bike
    accelerated, crunch.

Sounds bad from his POV. Sounds like classic bike/car interface.

*Anyway* - biker was on a ban. Obviously wasn't insured. Bike itself was
an unregistered grey import and equally obviously had no MoT nor road
    tax.

Police now throwing book at biker. Trouble is, imposing another ban
makes no difference - cnuts like that just keep riding.

Incidentally, did anyone else see that a bloke pissed while riding a
minimoto got off because the beaks decided it wasn't a road vehicle????

IMO they should 'throw the book' at both parties as the insurance is not
    related to the crash.

Your mate pulled out into oncoming traffic - that has nothing to do with
    anyone else.

    dwb :
You can't 'obstruct' the right of way of someone who has no right to be
on the road. Perhaps the cost of the repairs will make him more careful
    in future.

    biker"?

Yes I do, in fact I'd say the car is pretty much wholly at fault. Only 'let
off' by the fact the other party was illegally on the road.

The car turned into oncoming traffic with a vehicle approaching.

It could have been a nitrous'd up pink elephant - it had right of way.

  7. *boggle* if he's riding while banned without insurance, then surely
he's capable of pretty much anythng that's stupid and dangerous?

  8. If he's genuinely doing that sort of speed (ie 3x over the posted limit)
then I think he has to accept at least *some* of the responsibility should
    there have been a collision.

  9. I had a similar incident with a [ahem] police car, driving my car
about 10 minths after I passed my test. Only I carried on pulling out.

Picture the scene: it's 11:30 pm, just dropped a mate off afer the
cinema, got one mate in the car to drop off before I todlle home. Very
minor residential road opens onto the A34 roundabout by B&Q in
    Stafford [1]. Nobody around.

Until I start onto the roundabout and suddenly it's all blues and twos
off to my right. I figured that as I had already started onto the
roundabout, and my brakes were shit, I was better off trying to floor
it. Unfortunately, the acceleration was shit too [2], and I didn't
quite make it out of their path.

They left skid marks about 4 metres long. I hadn't seen them as the
road they were coming down [3] was obscured by 'landscaping' and a
    bridge and a bend, etc.

I never got charged due care, and surely, if you get in the way of the
police, and it's your fault, then you get got. It's not like they
    needed witnesses, FFS!

[1] this bit for Mup's benefit.

I was lucky when I was punted off in similar circumstances all my
witnesses said I was 'riding sensibly'.

The car driver swore, probably with some justification, I was speeding.

I think few could believe the piece of East German pig iron spewing
petroil could possibly achieve much more than walking pace.

Oh, and I took control of the witnesses, he just looked like a nova boi
(and gave a false address, but that's a separate story)

I'm assured that the word here is "priority", especially if one wishes
to convey the meaning which I believe you intended to any of Her Maj's
finest in a desperate attempt to persuade them that you *do* know
what's going on and you *were* being well-behaved and observant and
that what they'd just witnessed *was* just a momentary lapse.

And if you speed knowing it to be totally illegal you may
have low regard for the other rules of the road?

(ok, know one's criminal... but even so)
