My F4i's clutch with 31k miles is slipping slightly. I'm replacing the
friction disks this weekend. I was wondering if I can get by with
    reusing the steel plates?

If they're not discolored from overheating they're probably fine.

If you have any doubts, rough them up by rubbing them over sandpaper
backed by a flat surface (piece of glass is good) to remove minor glazing.

Also take a close look at the clutch basket to make sure the slots are
clean and without marks, which can cause the friction plates to bind.

check them for warping, check their thickness against the minimum spec,
and re-install if everything's in line. Your service manual will tell
you the minimum spec for plate thickness. If you don't have the Honda
manual, I strongly suggest obtaining it; it really is that much better
than the aftermarket ones. Honda's sole distributor in the USA is Helm,
Inc. (www.helminc.com). Or you can get used and counterfeit ones from
    eBay.

  4. Unless you *utterly destroyed* the clutch, almost certainly.
