Bimbling along the A3 yesterday and the rev counters flicking from 4
thousand to 8 to 4 to 8 like a metronome!

Checked my muff wasn't catching the clutch lever (stoppit!) but no.

Can I assume that my clutch is slipping? If yes then is there something I
can do between now and getting it to the mechanics? There was an awful lot
of freeplay on the clutch lever which I've twiddled with and adjusted now.
    But that's all I've done.

    Any advice gratefully recieved.

  2. It won't be the clutch unless the engine was surging to and fro as well,
and I think you might have noticed that.

Sounds like a rev counter fauilt - most likely a cable about to snap, if
it's cable driven, or an expensive and unrepairable electronic failure
    if it's al electric tach.

No necessarily. I had the same problem on the 748 and
it turned out that it was a loose earth connection on
the battery that was sparking as the battery wobbled.

A quick tightening of the screw and it was fine.

I also had the same problem about 10 years ago on my
RGV250 (which is why I kind of guessed that this was
the cause) where the badly placed battery connector
was rusting through due to all the salty water getting
onto it. Replacing that worked too.

Sounds like a dodgy earth somewhere along the line.
