that's the one with all the shagging in the train carriage, isn't it?
well yes, but, you like "Tommy" because you like the music of The Who
and the films of Ken Russell. I like "24 Hour Party People" because I
like the music of Joy Division, New Order and The Happy Mondays, and
because I like the films of Michael Winterbottom (in particular
    "Welcome to Sarajevo").

    Issues? Oh.
Yes, I've noticed the noise, but couldn't say about the power because
it's so long since I rode a stock one.

I've seen something about an ignition advance kit as well - know
    anything about that?
I'm not going anywhere near fully synth. It's a 20-odd year old engine
design, FFS - what does it want fully synth for?

Oh, nuts - I'd already ordered seperate clutch kit and springs from
Busters, and apparently the new springs are some 10-15% stronger than
stock, so maybe that would be all the difference it needs... but they
didn't have a listing for the springs, so that plan's knackered.

Is the clutch cover gasket a paper one, then? Isn't it a nice reusable
    rubber one?
"Ah, you see, he's already got one."
I'll wait till I'm happy with the clutch.
    Sounds good to me...

Aye. Rather than typing loads of bollocks, I'd rather refer you to a
    couple of hallowed web pages:
    http://members.accesstoledo.com/fastlarry1/bandit_tips.htm
ignition mods at the bottom of the page - and:
    http://members.accesstoledo.com/fastlarry1/banditfaq.htm#electrical
which is a lot more than just electrical info.
Paper, innit. As the man Larry says - have a new one ready, and you
won't rip the old one. If you don't have one, the old one will shred,
and it's Sunday afternoon and you're in the boondocks ...
    http://home.mindspring.com/~carlparker/clutch.htm
Game on. Resist the K&N until you do the jets and needles. A B12 is
fine on standard carbs with a can - and a 2" hole in the airbox - but
weaken the mixture further with a K&N combines with a can and your
    pistons are history.
That sounds fair as it will only provoke slip. Some people report
little difference, but Loz agrees that popping the connector made a
hell of a difference to mine.

Excellent - I'd started looking at that site for the clutch mods, but
people keep expecting me to do some work. Outrageous.
Ew! That looks more complicated than I expected it to be. And I can't
remember if I've got a 30mm socket. Arsebiscuits.
    2" hole? I'd best investigate.
    Lovely. Can't wait.

In light of what's been said about fully synth oil, check what's
currently in it (might well say on the receipt from the last service.)
It was absolutely fine before that service (the day before the EOSM) and
the slippage only began (or I only noticed it) on the way home from the
EOSM a couple of days later. So it might just be the oil.

But otoh, at that mileage, I was surprised the clutch had lasted so long
(as I'm not aware of a previous replacement.)

Good point - I'll have a look when I get home on Friday.
They wouldn't have put fully-synth in without asking first, would they?
Well, yeah. Especially if, as Pip says, they tend to have "issues". I'll
probably swap the plates anyway, but if it has got fully synth in there
    I'll change that first.

  8. I know I have 'ickle girlie hands but I needed both of them to pull
the clutch in and keep it there.

I'm pretty sure you'll like it.

I did but that was mainly because I like Joy Division, lived in Salford
in 1987 and had a bit of a (unrequited) pash for the girl who used to run
the food stand in the Hacienda with Fiona whatsherface from Smack the
    Pony.

Very useful should you drop something valuable behind a radiator.

The front brakes on that particular one are pretty good for a small bike
of that vintage - rear's a bit on or off I'll admit.

Actually, once you get used to it, it ain't that bad. In fact it can be
a feature if you work at it. Dead easy to do Rossi impressions coming
up to a junction it is, especially if it is a little bit damp.

Well I was thinking along the 'more than a handful is wasted' lines.
I'm not sure I can do subtle. Direct is more my style. Saves time.

It really made a difference to Pip's, but I've spoken to others who said
they never noticed any difference at all. maybe they weren't trying hard
enough or they aren't as brutal on the throttle in 1st and 2nd.
