Clutch Cable ZX6

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Andrew McKenna, Jan 22, 2009.

  1. Colleague has a '07 ZX6 with 18,000km and the clutch cable is shredding
(at the lever). Fair warranty claim? He's what you might call an
    enthusiastic rider.

NEver had a problem with the Pantah clutch cable, probably because it
was 6 months into ownership before I'd developed enough muscle in my
left arm to operate the damn thing....

This problem is usually caused by inadequate lubrication of the nipple
in the clutch lever. Tell him to put some Moly grease on the nipple.
If the nipple can't turn in the lever, it will cause the effect you
describer in a very short time. If it was regularly serviced by the
dealer, the dealer should have done that.

My Cali clutch cable snapped in the middle, not near the endd, at
150,000. My own fault, I should have lubed it better.

Heh heh; I think the main problem was the shitty alloy in the lever and the
end-lug and the fact that I wasn't greasing it!
It'd just fracture the strands and seperate.
I ended up getting a Suzuki one from a wreckers and it had a nylon sleeve
over the end-lug that allowed it to pivot. I only got it as a stop-gap but
it lasted longer than I had the bike.
