Clutch cable Q

OK I finally have my cable.
There's a split pin in an inconvenient spot (on the lower side of the
thingy that joins the spline and cable) so I was wondering if removing
the bolt to free the engine end of the cable (and make it easy rather
than fiddly) is OK ? I assume so but want to ask before I actually do
it. Otherwise I can see me swearing at the damned thing 'coz I can't get
    my fingertips in there.[*]

From what I've seen (not that I took detailed notes or anything) but
it's pretty much exactly the same assembly that the ER6F had as well as
the CBRs I've had as spares.

There's a triangular end to the cable which has a hole in it (engine end).
There's a bolt in that hole of which the underside is secured with a
    split pin.
The split pin goes through whatever the name of the thing attached to
the spline with the bolt is. Sorta looks like a straight comma with the
cable attaching at the pointy end.
I'm wanting to detach the round end so I can turn it upside down to get
    to the split pin.

I'd upload a pic but I get the feeling you're already either saying yes
or no by the end of the first paragraph (marked with [*]).
