I have only just started riding in the wet and am getting bloody soaked (and
cold), I am presently wearing: AGV Sport Leather Trousers, Akito Leather
Jacket & Alpinestars boots, but any more than a light shower and I am
    drenched.

I was thinking of getting a pair of waterproof over trousers, (at least I
could store these under the seat when dry), and some sort of warm waterproof
textile jacket, keeping the leather jacket for the better weather, Is this
the way to go? and is it worth waiting for the Ally Pally show, didn't know
if they sell this sort of stuff there? having never been to a bike show.

    TIA, David

Cheap one piece waterproof would be a start. That'll keep you dry and the
leathers will keep you protected. There's loads out there but try it on over
your leathers, whilst on your bike. If the crotch is too tight then it will
    leak.

The Ally Pally is the way to go. There'll be tonnes of stuff for you to look
    at.

In winter I wear Cordura gear with CE armour keeping leathers for better
weather. An all in one seat of waterproofs under the seat is always a good
    thing.

Having said that I got a great pair of Alpinestars jeans, thick in Nikwax,
    which repel water well.

Aha. Been there, done that, now use the car )

There'll be loads of stuff at the show. However, IME it's usually far
    too
hot and/or crowded to comfortably try on a range of stuff to see which
    suits
you best. It's debatable whether you'll get a real bargain, IMO.

My recommendation is to find your nearest Hein Gericke shop and have a
    mosey
around there. They have a great range of stuff and most of it has been
recommended by people here at one point or another.

I've just started wearing a pair of Dynamic trousers [1] over my 3 pairs of
assorted legwear, and for £19.99, they are the business. With my Akito Cobra
Plus jacket, I was bone dry[2] after 30 stormy miles through the North Downs
during today's lunchtime hack. Worst weather I have yet ridden through.

[2] Not strictly true. Slightly damp socks - must wax boots tonight. And
sleeve cuffs - must remember to zip over gloves, not inside.

I could take the car, but being a newbie thought I should really Percy Vear
to get at least some experience of riding in the wet.

By the way what is a gimp ;-)

Yeah had a good read of that before posting, seems to be a bit of mixed
    feeling on the jackets eh?

Are these trousers like Tesco's standard issue waterproof socks[1],
as modelled on occasion by AntonyE?

I mostly wear a 4 door saloon when its raining.

My missus, who commutes by bike in all weathers 'cos she has to,
generally wears an Akito waterproof fabric jacket and leather jeans,
with a pair of Tesco standard issue waterproof trousers on hand if it
does start raining. The downside of the jacket is that although it is
warm, armoured and waterproof the outer fabric takes ages to dry.

She has an all in one waterproof suit but rarely uses it; it's too
much of a struggle to get on and off.

In recent times it refers to a sex slave in a rubber mask but the original,
and my intended meaning, was a derogatory term for a cripple ;)

Close, they're what they give to the trolley collectors, donated by my
    son when he was demobbed.
1001 uses: If you go sailing for example, you just hook 'em over your
ears and you get an instant hands free vomiting kit.

    You'll find that happens, yes.

I wear leathers ATM for a variety of reasons.

I have some cheap waterproof overtrousers that are perfectly good
(£15) at keeping my legs dry
and a bought a £30 [1] 'waterproof' textile jacket at the BMF tail end
(end of summer show in Peterborough) It is total and itter crap. Last
time I wore it in heavy rain, I took out the armour and the thermal
lining, and wore it over my leathers. The rain went through the (zip)
of the textile, the leather, my fleece, T-shirt, thermal and to my
    skin.

Apparently quality counts, but I'd be hapy if I could find an un-lined
Spada overjacket to match the trousers right now

[1] Yes, I know it's pikey but I knew full well that spending on a
decent one would be wasted since it wouldn't fit by the winter. I was
right, and am loathe to buy a new one at Ally Pally for exactly the
same reason. I *will* be going gliding next year
