Clocks going back

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Paul Corfield, Oct 30, 2005.

  1. A bit of a dimbo question but are we the only country that faffs around
with its clocks in the spring and autumn or does the whole world do it?

Ours went back here, too as did, I assume most, if not all, of mainland
    Europe.

They definitely bugger about with it in Australia, too, but then they're
weird there anyway, with timezones 30 minutes apart in some places and all
    that...

A lot of others change their clocks but not all on the same date iirc.
Kazakstan definitely changed the clocks when I was working over there
but how they could call it "daylight saving" when it was only light
between about 09:30 and 15:00 in the winter I really don't know.

Some states of the USA do it I believe. Personally I'd go for GMT all
    year.

They hadn't bothered with summertime this year when we were over...

We just 'fell back' today. PITA it is with a house full of clocks.

Prolly if you're outside the tropics you'd be tempted to. Most (all?)
of europe, certainly some parts of America. Give me lighter evenings,
who gives a **** about mornings.

It was a lot warmer than the UK and apparently temperatures could
reach 45-50c where I was working. It's a big country and altitude
would have made a lot of difference.

Certainly does - we were over in July and it was around 35 deg in Almaty,
dropping to -15 deg when up on glacier. Even dropping from glacier to
Karkara base camp at 2200m had us ripping off our down jackets and fleeces
upon arrival to get the shorts and t-shirts on. Apparently it's larger than
    Western Europe...

Some of Australia anyway, NSW does, QLD doesn't.

  14. We do in Australia as mentioned, but not all states do.

So in Queensland (one that doesn't) it puts you an hour behind the state
next door to the south, 0.5 hrs ahead of the Central time zone and only
2 hours out with Western Australia instead of 3

    that's around here somewhere.

Only those countries far enough North or South of the Equator for it to
matter. And what a waste of time it is too, it makes a difference for
about 2 weeks Spring and Autumn, and from then on we may as well not
have bothered, and why those porrage wogs think they can tell us what
do about it I completely fail to see.
