I'm posting in classic, do I have to don a beard?

Commuting in mud has resulted in a filthy bike. It sitting in the
garage has resulted in rusty looking chrome.

How do I get it clean?

I'm sure some gallant sidecar-mounted knight will come to her rescue.

If you wore a suit of armour, & Lady Nina stood in the 'charriot' in a
Boadicea outfit brandishing a bow & arrow as you rode off the ferry,
Ride of the Valkyries blasting from the stereo, I'd pay good money to
    see it.

    Horrible things about the Benly.
I am never going in a sidecar with platy - I've seen the looks of
    horror on other's faces.
That's a very strange and worryingly arousing image. Though I was
having a conversation about clones earlier, in which I said I'd put my
    clone over my own knee.

Polish the chrome parts with Solvo Autosol or similar. You may find it
handy to use a brass wire suede brush to get rid of the rust if polishing
isn't enough. Avoid the temptation to use wire wool or sandaper as they will
scratch the surrounding chrome too much. Then get some ACF50 (around a
tenner plus postage on ebay). Wipe over the parts that were rusting with
the ACF50 and then wipe most of it off, leaving a thin film over the
corroded areas. It won't rust gain for ages and ages. ACF50 rocks.

  8. Buggrit, that reminds me, not sent passport application yet.

Mind, it looks like I may be out of a job[1], in which case, I can't really
justify spending the money, what with bank loans an' all... will know more
    in a week or two.

[1] ok, I'm self-employed... but my main income-generating contract looks
like it could go tits-up; either I'll jack it or have to pay big bucks for
    more licensing/insurance to continue it.

If someone cloned me and put us together I'd be beside myself.
