Clean-cut sports star plays away shock horror probe

  1. Sorry but your responses to me on a wide range of subjects have always
been negative and in one case just plain insulting and (IMO) lacking
    in thought or reason.

I did watch some of the series that had Jade in, just to see if she
really was as thick as everyone was saying. Yes, it's utter shite &
full of fuckwits, but the conversation where Jade was going on about
'East Angular' being another country was damn entertaining. Don't think
I've seen any of them since though.

Did you get the vow altered to "Until death - or the bitch shagging
somebody else - do us part"?
Surely, then, the only way to get out of it without breaking that vow is
to either kill her or encourage her to top herself?

I really disagree with that sentiment, but this is only Usenet, so
    "whatever".
I'm quite happy to put my hand up to that on occasion, but then he who
    is without sin...

    Not sure I'd know it.
And so it should. I've never managed more than about ten seconds when
it's started while I was out of the room or summat.
    Deserved? Nay, required.
Bit more snickery than what I had in mind, but it'll do, I guess.

It's a religeous vow - 'death' can mean whatever you want it to mean.
You could just say your former sinful self has died & you've been born
again as a servant of that jesus bloke.

'Your' in general, or 'your' as in specifically me? If the latter, I've
never done that, so no. If the former, then you might get away with it,
but I don't think it's as clear cut.

  11. Twas ever thus. Panem et circensis have always been easier to provide
than stuff to improve the mind. And are less likely to cause the proles
to think for themselves rather than doing what their temporal masters
    want them to.

    General, of course...
Ah, this is where it gets interesting...

So various clauses of an "oath"/"vow" do carry different weighting?

My original comment was somewhat tongue in cheek, based on previous
threads about words in the bible having different meanings depending on
which point you're trying to make. But 'death' certainly isn't black &
white in religion, so it wasn't entirely tongue in cheek. Adultery has
    only one meaning afaik.

Sure, all the definitions are flexible depending on whether they're
    trying to condemn or excuse.
"I did not have sexual relations with that woman..."

    Adrian, Jul 29, 2008
  16. ...which has nothing to do with the definition of death..

Krusty is quite right. Baptism (proper adult baptism and not
baby-sprinkling) does have the connotation of "the old life dying". So
taken from a purely legalistic viewpoint you *have* died. Mind you -
anyone wanting to use that viewpoint to get out of a marriage is
ignoring the spirit of marriage in favour of the letter of the law..

I will admit though that in some of the more traditional sections of my
church baptism is seen as something that gives a 'get out of jail free'
card as regards a pre-baptismal marriage (if the other partner is
    hostile anyway).

  18. Of course it is. Varies with the time of day, amount of sleep, diet,
mood, etc. Permanent drops caused by various toxins or tv shows are
    another thing, of course.
