I doubt if it'd make a difference. It's one of the most complicated
(and fucked up) things I've ever come across yet the government can
legally sell secrets to anyone they choose.

As Rudy points out, the 'signing' bit is pure pantomime. The act applies
to everyone in the country, regardless of whether they've signed it,
never heard of it, or wiped their arse on it.

Not actually wiped my arse on it but...

On my last day I was called in to sign a copy of the Act, or rather an
extract from it. First of all I was asked to confirm my name in spite of
the fact that I was wearing a T-shirt with the words "LACCHIN IN
INTELLIGENCE" printed on it. When I asked why I had to sign it, I was told
it was "so I was bound by it". I pointed out that everyone was bound by it
but Miss Jobsworth insisted I sign it. I continued to question the need
until she admitted the real reason was that she had a list of names to get
through and she needed to tick me off the list. That was an eminently
practical reason I could understand, so I signed and handed it back to her.
She immediately handed it back to me: "This is for you to keep."

"What am I supposed to do with it?"

    "Whatever you like."

So I screwed it up and lobbed it into the nearest WPB. She ticked her list,
quite happy. And I left the building for the last time.

If you think "thick people" == "people who watch reality TV" vs.
"intelligent people" == "people who don't", I fear you are very much
    mistaken.

It's not my cup of tea, but I do recognise that there are people that
    enjoy it for whatever reason.

I would agree with that. Watching reality TV isn't necessarily an
indication of your level of intelligence but I think it does indicate the
direction in which your level of intelligence is going.

    heh.

Actually, it was more a dig at the sort of generalisation used that the
"intelligensia" of ukrm are quick to jump on when the view doesn't
    match their own.

You're not suggesting that the clique is a bunch of sanctimonious,
hypocritical, patronising, humourless cunts, surely? <g>

Tell me about it. K watches various reality (hah!) shows including BB
and she's by no means thick.

Hmm ... I think he's suggesting that the Clique has a collective IQ
    above 17.2.

Which in itself is hilariously optimistic.

I don't know about everyone else but at my age I find that if my brain takes
in any new stuff, it tends to push some of the old stuff out. I can't
afford to watch 'reality' shows (for example) because I can't risk something
useful being displaced, possibly for ever.

Actually, you do seem to be developing something of a pattern of
apparently deliberate misinterpretation, not just on response to
    Paul's posts.

*Personally* I would agree. Having said that, *I* would have little, or
no compunction inf either divorcing SWMBO or allowing her a divorce
should she either decide that she no longer loved me, or was unfaithful.
It's a partnership, and if one side breaks it, *I* think that absolves
the other partner from holding up.

I've not done huge amounts of research into why people are unfaithful,
but I think if things have got that bad, then you may as well admit that
the whole thing was a mistake and get out with 'honour' (Ridiculous word
but I can't think of anything else that comes close to what I'm trying
    to convey)

Oh, and in our case it's 'Until death us do part', not 'forever'.
    Entirely possibly American.
Yes, I did realise that was rather an incomplete stat this morning :(

Is it really that bad, I think it's a shame.

  20. Well the only decent thing about Big Brother is the theme tune. I
think I've only ever seen about 25 seconds of the show itself and that
makes me feel ashamed. I feel revenge for that 25 seconds of torture
    is deserved.
Possibly - The Hooded Claw from the Perils of Penelope Pitstop is a
    personal hero of mine.
