It's not precisely what the religious extremists are expecting. It's
    quite easy.

Case a) Religous extremist states 'I demand / expect / whatever that
*you* behave in this manner because *I* say so'

Case b) *I* demand / expect / whatever that the extremist should behave
in a certain manner because *they* have said that they will.

    See the difference?

Do they really? I wonder why anyone gets married then. I certainly
    expect to remain faithful.
Indeed I do. And that's really all we're discussing is where the line
should be drawn. I expect people to behave in the way that they say they
will since that is the basis upon which we elect them. If they willfully
demonstrate that they will not or cannot live up to the standards that
they voluntarily agreed to, then I have to question if they are going to
treat other promises (call them what you will) in the same way.

Yes, the point I made right in one of my original posts. If all parties
are consenting, then I really don't have a problem. I do have a problem
is one (or more) are in ignorance, or objecting. Christ, it's not
exactly hard (apparently) to get a divorce, is it?
Again, if all parties are informed and consenting, I'd agree.

I think it's the manner of the dissolution. I've also never said that
I'd stop voting for a politician. My point is more that I think such
behaviour does have an implication on their behviour as a whole, and as
such I will take it into consideration when making my choice.

Apologies if this is a dupe.
    Maybe they do.
Where did I say that I expected politicians to not get divorced? I
expect politicians (and in fact everyone) to act up to the standards
that they set for themselves and voluntarily. I understand that this may
be a rather cute and old fashioned notion.

Let me try and make it clearer:

I don't give a rat's arse if you screw anything that moves, as long as
all parties involved are giving informed consent. If, however, you make
a promise, under no duress, to only have sex with a single partner for
the rest of your life, then I expect you to do that. If you decide that
you made a mistake, then you can get a divorce. I have no problem with
that. That may be an illogical position, but WTF.
    No idea of the validity:
    http://www.womansavers.com/infidelity-statistics.asp
22 percent of married men have strayed at least once during their
    married lives.

14 percent of married women have had affairs at least once during their
    married lives.

    http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?id=170
    (should be OK)

12.2 divorcing people per 1,000 married population in 2006

'Lots'? Perhaps, possibly even 'many'. 'Most'? I don't agree.

You say up there ^ that you don't care who it is, and that's fine, but
as it's a sportsman I'm sure there are many people who would like to
see if it's their team's favourite striker or fly-half or whatever.

For example, if it were James Todeland for instance, would you be
    "interested"[1].

    [1] As opposed to "care".

I agree. The only way is for these magazines to be ignored until they
go out of business but the proliferation of Hello, OK etc. etc. in
recent years means we're all[1] going to be disappointed.

[1] I mean those of us here that dislike celebrity culture - I realise
that some here might well have an interest in it, for whatevber reason.

Dunno about Champ, but I've never heard of him.

But even if you were talking about a GP racer or some-such, I can't
see why anyone should be interested in his love life. Lewis Hamilton
was getting a lot of this sort of negative press attention recently,
but I've no idea what it was about. Why, because I'm _not interested_.

It's for this same reason that I manage to remain in agnorance of the
latest goings-on in football, or who the latest Big Brother reject is.
It's really, really easy, especially these days that you can get all
of the news you need on the web, to just ignore all the crap like
    this.

It was a typo. I'm sure I'm wasting my time replying to you, but
you've heard of James Toseland, yes?
People interested in MotoGP might. In fact, I reckon that the majority
of people interested in MotoGP would ne interested to some extent.
And you're not interested because you don't follow F1.
Quite - I agree that you're not interested or care about the person
because you're not interested in the field for which they are famous.

For non-Ace values of famous, of course )

My point being, that a lot of people *don't* ignore it because they are
    interested for whatever reason.

My initial reaction is to be not interested in the story in question
but if it turned out to be the Leeds United captain[1], then I probably
would, just *out of interest to me*.

Similarly, if it were an Everton player I would suspect Adie might be
"interested". Note that I am trying to make a distinction between
    "interested" and "care".

    [1] Top sportsman? Ha!

I really don't understand this - you're interested in watching Leeds
United play footie, yes? But what does that have to do with who the
Leeds captain is shagging in his spare time? I really don't see why
the 'interest' extends. Would you also be 'interested' in what the
Leeds players had for breakfast, or what they watched on telly last
    night?

    Really? Well I never!
You don't think my next line about a GP racer might be a give-away
    then?
I've only been interested in it for 30 years or so, and I honestly
couldn't tell you anything about the private lives of anyone involved
    in that period

    Oh, I take that back, I remember Sheene's missus[1] being a bit of a
    babe.
Why on earth would you think that? You're very wrong, as it happens.
I'm at least as interested in F1 as I am in bike racing.
    Yeah, that's what I said, right enough[2].
But why? Does it affect his ability to play the game? No, not unless
he's hounded into a corner by the gutter press it wouldn't.

[1] Dunno if it was his wife or girlfriend, which is kinda the point.
[2] I should mark this with sarcasm tags, as you're clearly unable to
    distinguish it as such.

    Nothing at all.
No. But sex is always of interest between people you "know", whether
    that be IRL or otherwise.

    For example, there's a sub-thread up there ^ in repsonse to Krusty's
LTSNTSSWYGTC post. According to your POV, there's no reason why he
should have alluded to it, and even less as to why anyone, including
    you, responded.

An incorrect assumption. I would apologise, but this is ukrm...
But why? Because I can't see why *anyone* would be interested in F1.
No, it doesn't. I think you've missed my point (or ignored it) that
I'm trying to put across, that *IMO* there is a marked difference
between "being interested in" and "caring about".
