The real issue with things like this is whether it makes them
vulnerable to blackmail, in which case it *does* have a potential
    impact on their professional life.

These days, however, it appears hawking it straight to the press is of
far more "value" than the old fashioned brown envelope job.

    I don't.

If someone voluntarily takes an oath, then I expect them to live up to
it. The religious parallel does not enter into it unless I chose to
    agree to follow that course.

Ahh, so it's shades of grey again? It's OK to break your marriage oath,
you'll still be fit for office.

What if you decide that part of the oath of office you took doesn't
quite suit any more? Is that bit OK?

What is al this shit you're talking about "oaths"? FFS, no-one expects
most married people to remain faithful, why should a public figure be
    any different?
Don't be daft. Why you would even think about comparing these two
cases is completely beyond me - it's no more valid than saying that
someone who occasionally, and willfully, nicks a pencil or a roll of
sellotape from the office should be treated like the worst armed
robbers. It's a question of degree, you see.

Perhaps not "OK" as such. However, I think it is absolutely pointless
to compare or contrast the circumstances under which you would wish to
dissolve a personal partnership on the one hand and stop voting for a
    polititian on the other.

Life's too short not to shag someone when you get the chance?

Took a while, I'd got LTSNT shag some woman you've and I was trying to
work out GTC. I thought it might be 'got to compensate'.

It would only expose them to blackmail if there was a salacious press
willing to print such stuff to a drooling public.

    Oh, hang on...

FWIW I took (and still take) oaths seriously. There's mythology around
    them for a reason.

The best bit was the news of the world comparing the award made to Mad
Max and the one made to a soldier seriously injured in Iraq.

How they can try to project themselves as being a paper that stands
up for "our boys" and then drag them into an arguement about the son
of a WWII fascist and his sexual tastes is beyond me.

  19. There'll be more. The Daily Mail's initial pursuit of the lowlifes who
murdered that black teenager is another. I realy haven't got time to
trawl through journalistic history, but I'm pretty sure there'll be more
    than one case.

There are plenty of ways to deal with that aspect. People make mistakes
in many situations, but that does not make their behaviour acceptable.
