  1. Good point. Not sure.
    I think so.
Getting his family to swear false statements, followed by perjury? I
    should coco.

Assuming they are all in agreement, I tend to agree. But what if his
wife does not either know, or does and objects and he carries on anyway?

It's a proof that IMHO he cant be trusted to keep his word, which is
kind of important in a politician.

Obviously no politician can be so trusted, but there's no need to make
    it obvious.

That seems a reasonable argument, yes.

    A fair point, indeed.
Ahh, well, I' not one of the 75% and have no intention of over becoming
so. I expect others to live up to my standards. Potentially futile, though.
Naive, possibly, but not, I feel unreasonable all the same. It's a vow.
No judgement posed on any here, but something of a biggy.
Well indeed. What if his secretary is male? What if she *looked* 16?
So we should feel OK if they hit the lowest common denominator?
Ahh well, but they seem pretty crap at that as well ;)

  10. Did anyone watch the Louis Theroux programme some years ago on Max
Clifford? Incredibly scary how much power someone like that exerts
(Clifford, not Theroux). ISTR him explaining to Louis Theroux exactly
how he could make him or break him completely, depending how he was
    feeling.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not passing any moral judgements and I don't think
it's necessarily of public interest - I'm just curious as to who this is.
    Salacious interest, if you like.

That is utter nonsense. A man's (or woman's, for that matter)
personal life bear no relation to how they behave publically and
professionally. The currents that stir the heart (and regions further
south) and considerably more powerful, and less amenable to reason,
than those which we meet in our day jobs.

History is riddled with genuinley 'great men', who, it turns out, had
appallingly complicated love lives. You facile equation of
'trustworthy in bed = trustworthy in office' means we're destined to
    be governed by accountants.

It's your interest which sells the papers, and in part creates the

  16. On a related note; the randiest students I ever met were the divinity
ones. The drunkenest cunts were the medicos. The accountants didn't do
    too badly in either department.

I am not making that link, you are. I am suggesting there may be a link
between breaking oaths and not being trustworthy.

So, how do you feel about being expected to live up to other people's
standards? Say, those of the Catholic Church, to pick an average
    example.

Which is the link your making, if you include all 'oaths' under a the
same blanket. If you really think people behave the same towards the
people they sleep with as they do with those they work with, or
govern, then you live in a very simplistic world.
