Woke up this morning and said to myself, "Self, you NEED to get out of
town!" So, I hopped on my pony and took a little ride. 242 point
something miles later, I'm home. What a blast. Rode through a bunch of
indian reservations, and at least 2 had giant casinos raking in the
cash. Bought a bottle of local wine in Wynola, stopped in the desert
to look at wild flowers in the 100 degree heat, and climbed to the top
of Palomar to see the observatory. Ate home-made chili at Mother's,
rode past umpteen gazillion orange trees, stopped by a sick friend to
cheer her up, and even checked out the surf at the beach. Not a bad
day. The only down side was when I stopped by the market to get
fixings for Cinco de Mayo dinner, the clerk asked how much I spent on
gas money for the ride. Bitch.

Today was also a test ride for the new GoPro camera. When I get a
round tuit, I'll try to post some vids.

I think this will lead to the route:

Nice. I do like your part of the world. Mind you, last time I went up
Palomar you couldn't move for road flares and bikes parked in hedges.
Hope it was better for you!

Wait 'til you get over here and see the petrol prices.
I've worked with the people that make that, it is a brilliant toy. I
meant to use it in France but didn't find a tuit.
Does look nice. I'm missing it already. There's a great coffee shop in
    Julian next to the garage.

I was surprised how little traffic there was. I saw only a handful of
bikes on the whole mountain and I was the only one at Mothers. Of
course, doing it in the middle of the week had something to do with
    it.

Yep, that'd help. Cracking road, that. And the trundle down to Borrego
    Springs is pretty bloody scenic.

I was desperately disappointed with the cider I had in Julian though.

Funny 'bout that. Julian was an apple growing place for many years.
Made its name on apples. Then the tourists came, and demand
overwhelmed supply. They had to import Washington apples. Now many
orchards are gone. My sister and BiL worked an orchard, but they've
packed off and it's closed. The place is now a gift shop and wine
market. But American cider is really a different thing from what you
call cider, obviously. I can't imagine the shock of ordering a glass
    and expecting some alcohol content.

The first had an audio track, but Youtube censored it.

    More to come.

What's the camera mounted on? A flagpole?

Harumpf. I'll have you know my body is normally proportioned. For a
